UNITED STATES PATENT OEETEE..
ROBERT B. ORAIGHEAD, OF MILTON, OHIO.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,103, dated January 15, 1884,
Application tiled May 4, 1883.
llo all whom t may concern Be itknown that I, ROBERT B. CRAIGHEAD, a citizen of the United States, residing` at Milton, in the county of Miami and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Snap-Hooks; and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to snap-hooks for harness; and itconsists in so modifying the ordinary snap-hook as to dispense with the eye of the same, and so construct the hook that is is readily attached to a leathern strap by means of rivets, the same being a permanent part of the body of the hook.
The construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure represents a side view of the snap-hook.
At A in the drawingis represented the body ofthe snap-hook, which is made of malleable cast-iron, and on the back of which are studs or rivets, which form an integral part there- (Xo model.)
of. On the top surface, near the left end, is riveted a flat curved spring, whose free end presses against the under surface of the hook. The snap-hook is attached to the leathern strap O by passing the rivets through holes in the strap, then putting on washers and flattening the rivets, which secures the hook to the strap.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The improved snap-hook, consisting of the fiat base A, with the upwardly-curved hook D at one extremity thereof, and having studs or rivets on the back, all of said parts being formed integral, and the iiat spring B, riveted to the top of said base-plate at the end opposite the hook, and having its free end adja-` cent to the under portion ot' the hook7 as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing asv ROBERT B. ORAIGI-IEAD.
