Description

NrrEn STATES CHARLES L. MOREY, on GOMAO, NEW YORK.
PROCESS OF PREPARING MEDICATED COURT-PLASTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 291,922, dated January 15, 1884.
Application filed June 26, 1883. (Specimena) T 0 all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, CHAS. L. MoREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oomac, in the county of Suffolk and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Method of Preparing Medicated Court-Plaster, which consists in applying any healing properties that can be dissolved to old and worn out gold-beaters skins after they have been given up as worn out and of no further use for beating gold-leaf and all that I claim under this invention is the method of applying any healing preparation that can be dissolved to the skins, and which is done in the following 1113111161:
First. Each skin is rubbed with a hares foot until all particles of gold-leaf are taken offa method which is known to all goldheaters.
Second. After the rubbing process is finished, each skin is placed between sheets of paper five and one-half or six inches square and beaten with a heavy hammer until the skin becomes perfectly flat, and which also cleans the skins. This method is used by gold-heaters in beating their leaf.
Third. Applying the-preparation to the skins, which is as follows: I take sheets of paper five and one-half or six inches square, damp them well and evenly with any dissolved healing preparation; then each skin is laid separately between each sheet of paper for a few moments, when it will have taken the preparation from the paper, and is then ready to be taken out and laidaside to dry. After becoming dry, they are wrung down in presses,
which makes them perfectly flat. The plaster is then ready for applying to cuts, burns, scalds, or sores of any kind, and which makes one of the best court-plasters known, for the following reasons: First, it is the mosteasily applied of any plaster known, and adheres to the flesh immediately; second, it fastens itself into the pores of the skin, thereby eX- cluding entirely all air from penetrating the wound; third, either side of the plaster can be used; fourth, the plaster, being perfectly transparent, can be placed on any part of the face or hands, and would scarcely be noticed; fifth, it will remain 011 the wound until washed or taken off sixth, if a person wishes to bathe or wash the wound, they may take the plaster off and return it again to the wound by applying the other side of the plaster seventh, each plaster being double causes it to be perfectly air-tight, thereby eX- cluding all air from the wound or sore.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The method of preparing court plaster, which consists in removing from old gold-beaters skins by rubbing all particles of gold adhering thereto, then beating the skins between paper, then subjecting the skins to pressure between sheets of paper moistened with a medicinal preparation to coat the skins upon both sides, then drying, and finally flattening the same by pressure, as set forth.
CHAS. L. MOREY.
