Description

Dec. 15, 1959 c. RESNICK GUN HOLSTER Filed Dec. 10, 19s? ATTORNEY United States Patent GUN HOLSTER Charles Resnick, Freeport, N.Y. Application December 10, 1957, Serial No. 701,796
6 Claims. (Cl. 224-2) The present invention relates to pistol holsters and more particularly to a novel holster for toy cap guns.
With children who play with cap pistols a primary feature is the ease and rapidity with which the gun can be shot starting from its position in the holster. A child will devote much time practicing the quick withdrawal of the gun from the holster since the games involving cap guns require a so-called fast draw and subsequent firing. It is to this general feature that the present invention is directed.
Accordingly it is a primary object of the present invention to provide a holster for a pistol wherein the latter can be quickly and conveniently fired.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a pistol holster wherein the pistol can be quickly fired without being removed from its holster.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a holster for a toy cap pistol wherein the holster can be locked in a horizontal position and the cap gun fired with out removal from the holster.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a cap gun holster that can be locked in the conven tional vertical position and also locked in a substantially horizontal position.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a cap gun holster wherein a forward movement of the gun within the holster results in the automatic firing thereof. i I
A further object of the present invention is to provide a cap pistol holster wherein the pistol can be quickly fired by pushing the pistol forward within the holster.
A still. further object of the present invention is to provide a gun holster that is of simple and strong construction and conveniently and economically manufactured.
In accordance with these and other objects, the present invention contemplates a pistol holder pivotally mounted to a belt adapted to encircle the waist of one using the device. Since the holster is pivotally mounted it may be rotated from theco-nventional vertical position ,to a horizontal position. Snap fasteners are provided so that the holster can be locked in either of these two positions. When used in the conventional manner, the holster Willbe in its. vertical position and a strap secured at" the top of the bolster will pass over a portion of a toy pistol to maintain the gun in position. Alternatively, the gun holster may be pivoted up to a substantially horizontal position and locked by means'of a' snap fastener. In this position, the gun holding strap at the top. of the holster is passed through a pair of aligned slots in'the holster sides and threaded between the trigger of the gun and the forward portion of the trigger guard. A sheet metal band encircles the portion of the strap that is located in front of the trigger. Thus by merely pushing the pistol forward, the trigger is actuated by engagement with the band and the gun will shoot. The invention will be more fully understood from the following description of a specific embodiment thereof taken with the drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the holster and belt of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a view of the other side of the belt and holster of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a side view showing the holster locked in its horizontal position; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the holster of the present invention with a portion of the holster broken away to show the position of a pistol within the holster in firing position.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a holster generally indicated by numeral 10 having an outer side wall 11 and an inner side wall 12. Theholster may be made of one piece of leather or other suitable sheet material folded over and sewn as at 13 along the rear edge thereof. The lower end of the holster is cut away or open as at 14 and the upper end is open to receive a gun such as a cap pistol generally indicated by numeral 15. Since the specific pistol forms no part of the present invention it need only be noted that it is of the repeating type which automatically fires upon each actuation of the trigger. The holster 10 is secured to a belt 16 by a pivoted connection formed of a pronged pin 18 passing through the inner side wall of the holster and the belt. In order to insure against tearing of the leather at the pivot point washers 19 and 21 may be provided.
As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the holster may be pivoted to a vertical position and carried in the conventional manner. To maintain the holster in this position, a snap fastener is provided comprising a male element 22 secured to the inner side wall of the holster and 2.
- female element 23 secured to the'belt16. With the holster in the vertical position these two elements of the snap fastener are aligned and snapped together. A strap 24 is secured at one end to the inner side 12 of the holster by means of a pin 25. The strap then passes through a slot 26 in the inner side, over the rear portion of the trigger guard of a gun and snapped to the outer holster side by a snap fastener as at 27. It is seen therefore that the holster of the'present invention can thus be used in the normal or conventional manner. 1
When it is desired to prepare the gun for quick and rapid firing, the holster- 10 is unsnapped and pivoted to the horizontal position shown in Figures 3 and 4. A second snap fastener comprising a male element 28 secured to the inner side wall 12 of the holster and a female element 29 secured to the'belt 16 is provided so that when the holster is in the firing or horizontal position these elements are aligned and the holster .is locked in place. In this position the strap 24 is unsnapped from the male snap element 31 and passed through the trigger guard of the gun just in front of the trigger as seen more clearly in Figure. 4. The strap 24 then passes through a second slot 32 in the outer side of the holster and snapped to a male snap element 33. A thin sheet metal band 34 encircles the portion of the strap 24 that is located in front of the' gun trigger. With the gun in this position it is'readily seen that by merely pushing the gun forward the'trigger will engage the metal band and the. gun will fire. 'For'continuous, rapid firing of the gun itis only necessary to repeatedly push the' gun handle forward.
It is seen then from the above description that when the gun-is in:the horizontal or firing position, it is fired without being're'moved from the holster and without a direct pulling of the trigger. The relative size of the gun and holster must be such that with the gun in the horizontal position there is enough room in the holster so that the gun can be pushed forward. The strap 24 serves a dual function in that when the gun is in its normal position the strap serves to lock the gun in place. With the gun in the horizontal or firing position the strap in addition operates as a firing trip.
