` SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 291,617, dated January s, 1884.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY MoNAUGHToN, a subject of Great Britain, residingat the village of Erin, inthe county of Wellington, Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada,
physician, have invented a certain newand usefullmprovement in Splints for the Forearm, Wrist, and Hand, (for which a patent has been` applied for in the Dominion of Canada,) of which thefollowing is a specification.
My invention has for its objectthe securing of a fractured forearm in animmovable `position, without causing unnecessary pain to the patient in the application of the same, and afterward when the` splint is in position upon the arm. p
It consists of a new surgical appliance or splint, made of any suitable material, and so constructed asto embrace the inner part of the forearm, the lower portion of which appliance terminates in a downwardly-sloping piece or palm accurately fitting the palm of the hand, and `thence rises up over the wrist and along the forearm, forming a closely-tting and easy support` all along the splint.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a face View, showing that `side of the splint which is placed next the arm. Fig. 2 is a` back View of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate the same the arm has become strong and well. `Being well adapted to the radial curve of the arm, it maintains the integrity of the interosseous space. It also retains the hand in its normal position, and allows free motion of the fingers, and can be applied to either forearm with equal facility. t
Having thus described my invention, what I` claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
In a splint for the forearm, wrist, and hand, constructed as shownanddescribed, the combination, with the shell A B C D, of the longitudinal ridge E and the abrupt ridge E', for the purpose specied.
