Application March 27, 1956, Serial No. 574,199
2 Claims. (Cl. 223-96) The present invention relates to improvements in a combination clothes brush and pant or skirt holder.
It is an object of the invention to provide a novel traveling accessory which may be conveniently carried in a traveling bag and used as an efiicient clothes brush as well as a pant holder. As a pant holder, the accessory may be readily suspended from any standard form of closet hook or clothes hanger.
Another object is to provide an accessory of the type described in which the article of clothing being suspended is firmly held in position with the assistance of its own weight.
A further object is to provide an accessory of the type described which may be inexpensively manufactured yet is sturdy and durable in use.
These and other objects and advantages will appear from the following specification and claims.
In the drawings,
Fig. 1 is a side-elevational view of the accessory,
Fig. 2 is an end view taken of the right hand end of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing a pair of pants being suspended from the cuffs, and
Fig. 4 is a top view of a modified form of the invention.
Referring to the form of Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive, the traveling accessory comprises an elongated body portion 12 preferably of wood or molded plastic. At one end the body portion 12 is provided with a series of suitable holes (not shown) in which bristles 16 are cemented or otherwise secured, all in well known manner.
A piece of relatively rigid formed wire 18 extends along the face 19 of the portion 12 with a short return bent portion 20, parallel to the longer portion 22 and disposed on the same plane, having hinging action within a hole 24 extending in from one end along the longitudinal axis of the body portion 12. (See the form of Fig. 4 for more detail in plan view.) The portion 20 has a snug fit in the hole 24 so as to remain in position during use and handling yet the portion 22 is capable of hinging from the position shown in Fig. 2 into the position of Fig. 3 under the weight of the pants 26.
To avoid the use of a hanger which might snag upon clothes in a traveling case, a flexible chain 28 is preferably used and attached to the body portion 12 may be passed through parallel transverse holes 30.
The form shown in Fig. 4 is identical to the form of Fig. 1 with the exception that it has been constructed to hold two pairs of pants. This has been accomplished by duplicating the formed wire 18' upon opposite sides of the body portion 12'. Holes 24' are provided in from each end of the body 12' along the longitudinal axis thereof in which the short portions 20' have a snug fit yet are capable of being hinged to clamp the garments being supported against the sides of the body 12'.
It will be understood that the portions 22 and 22' are slightly sprung away from the body 12 and 12 in order to insert the pants or skirt. When this is done the portions 22 and 22' will be in the position shown in Fig. 2. Thereafter, the portions 22 and 22' will assume the position shown in Fig. 3 under the weight of the garment or by being manually urged depending upon the tightness of the fit of the portions 22 and 22' in the holes 24 and 24.
When used as a clothes brush the wire or wires 18 and 18, along with the body portions 12 and 12', constitute handle portions which may be firmly gripped, the wire 18 or wire 18 adding bulk to the handle portions.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as novel and wish to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A combination brush and garment hanger comprising an elongated body portion of substantially uniform cross-section, one end of said body portion constituting a handle portion and the other end a brush portion, a hole defined in said handle portion and extending inwardly from and along the longitudinal axis of said body portion, a garment holding member having a clamping portion extending along and substantially coextensive with one side of said body portion substantially parallel to said longitudinal axis and defining a narrow openended slot with said body portion, said holding member having a return bent portion extending beyond the end of said handle portion with a leg portion thereof parallel to said clamping portion and disposed in said hole to provide a pivotal support for said clamping portion for limited rotation about said axis from and toward said side whereby said clamping portion may be rotated by the weight of a garment disposed in said slot and engaging with said clamping portion to effect a clamping action between said clamping portion and said side of said body portion, said holding member adding to the bulk and length of said handle portion, another side of said body portion at said brush portion end in off-set relation to said clamping portion having brush bristles carried therein, and support structure for said body por tion attached thereto between said brush and handle portions.
2. A combination clothes brush and garment hanger comprising an elongated body portion having a bristle brush portion at one end and a smooth handle portion at the other end, supporting means afiixed to said body portion intermediate said brush and handle portion, and a garment holding member disposed along one entire side of said body portion substantially parallel thereto to define therewith a narrow open ended slot, said member adding to the bulk of said handle portion and having one end supported from said handle portion, and said garment holding member and the bristles of said brush portion being radially disposed at least apart with respect to the axis of said body portion whereby said bristles will not interfere with the garment hanging function of the hanger.
