Claims priority, application Brazil July 13, 1954 8 Claims. (Cl. 70-153) The invention relates to a safety lock comprising a latch-bolt guided in a lock-casing, a non-rotatable, axially movable hollow latch-pin traversing said latch-bolt for moving the latter from its locking position, and projecting on both sides of said lock casing with outer projecting parts and handles on its outer ends, one of which rotatably mounted, a locking member for the latch bolt in the latch-pin, rotatable internal control element for said locking members. Known safety locks of this kind are disadvantageous since there is no way of preventing the same, when in locked condition, from being unlocked by key means from outside of the door. For such purposes further bolts, which may only be served from the inner side of the door, or other further safety means are necessary.
An object of the invention is, to avoid these deficiencies and to improve the known safety locks by simple means.
According to the invention in such a safety lock a locking member for the rotatable internal control element is axially movably disposed in at least one of said handles, transverse slits are provided in one end of the hollow latch-pin and in the adjacent end of said rotatable internal control element opposite said axially movable locking member in the handle and cooperating therewith for securing said rotatable internal control element against rotation when said locking member is advanced in an axial direction and extends into said transverse slits. Within the rotatable handle an elastic supporting means is disposed, adapted to yieldingly hold said locking member in its releasing position and a movable driving means for said locking member is mounted to extend outside of said handle adapted to move said locking member in its locking position with respect to said rotatable in ternal control element.

' Fig. 12 shows the same locking member with the movably and swivelly provided holding means during changement from the holding, position to the releasing position,

In Fig. 1, 1 is the spring-catch formed as a longitudinally movable bolt, situated in the lock casing 2, and yieldably held in locking position by spring 4, bearing against a transverse part 3 of the lock-casing 2. In the interior of the lock-casing 2 the bolt 1 has a hollow body, having behind the transverse part 3 a rectangular trans verse channel 5 for the partly rectangular or square latchpin 6, on the ends of which, extending on bothsides from the casing 2, for example, the button- formed handles 7 and 8 are provided. The lock-casing 2 will be disposed in the door 9 in the manner of a mortise lock, so that the latch-pin 6 with the handles 7, 8 on both sides of the door project from the sides of the door, the handle 7 being on the inside of the door.
The handle 7, disposed on the inner end of the latch pin 6 and formed as a turning button, is located on the cylindrical end-part of the latch-pin 6 by a hollow cylin drical part 12 and fixed by a radial screw 10, so as to be axially immovable with respect to the latch-pin 6, but turnable through only a predetermined angle on the latch-pin. For this purpose the connecting screw 10 is guided in a transverse slit ll of the latch-pin, which extends over an angle of about 180. At the same time the connecting screw 11) grips in a radial hole of a retatable internal control element 26, and therefore the inner turn-button 7 and the rotatable internal control element 26 are in mutual interconnection with each other. The hollow cylindrical part 12 of the turning button 7 is guided in a hollow cylindrical sleeve 13 of the inner covering plate 14.
The turn button formed handle 8 at the outside of the door 9 is rigidly connected by a square section and a screw 15 with the square-formed latch-pin 6, and is guided, with its hollow cylindrical part 16, in the hollow cylindrical sleeve 17 of the outer covering plate 18. The
covering plates 14 and 18 are connected with each other in the correct position by means of threaded bushings 19, 20 fixed to the outer covering plate 18 and connect: ing screws 21, guided through the inner covering plate 14.
Between the guiding sleeves 13 and 17 of the coveringplates 14 and 18 and the hollow cylindrical parts 12 and 16 of the handles 7 and 8 are provided at the inner side of the sleeves 13 and 17 and near the ends, guidingand packing-rings or sleeves 22 of caoutchouc or plastic materials. The handles 7, 8 carry on their outer ends endbuttons 2-3, with ring-formed holes 24, open to the door side and parallel to the hollow cylindrical parts 12and 16, for receiving the guiding sleeves 13 and 17, if the handles 7, 8 are moved axially with the latch-pin 6 toward the door.
In a longitudinal central cylindrical channel 25 of the latch-pin 6, the rotatable internal control element 26 is disposed axially immovable, but rotatable through a predetermined angle, and interconnected in the middle part of its length with a transversely movable locking-member movement of the latch-pin, which is locked too.
27, guided in the latch-pin 6 in such a way, that the looking member 27 is moved out of or into the latch-pin 6 when the internal control element 26 is rotated.
In the latch-bolt 1 is provided in opposite position to said locking member 27 a corresponding slit 28, in which the locking-member 27 engages to lock the bolt 1 in its outer locking position and at the same time to lock the latch pin 6 against axial movement. The locking member 27 and the corresponding slit 28 in the bolt 1 may be formed round, oval or rectangular in transverse direction.
The handle 8 on the outer side of the door' with its button 23 is provided coaxially with the latch-pin 6 with a cylinder-lock 29, which is secured against axial movement, but which moves a coupling-member 30, which is disposed therein to couple the cylinder lock with the rotatable internal control element 26, in axial direction, if it is turned by a key for moving this coupling member 30 into a transverse end-slit 31 of the rotatable internal control element 26 and making a joint between the rotatable part of the cylinder lock 29 and the rotatable internal control element 26. Hereby the rotatable internal control element 26, after its coupling with the cylinderlock, is rotated by the key of the lock so, that the lockingmember 27 is moved into locking-position or out of this position to the releasing position for the bolt 1 and the latch-pin 6.
For moving the latch-bolt 1 from its locking position to the releasing position by means of axial movement of the latch-pin 6 there are disposed on opposite sides of the latter one or more angle-formed bars 33, which interact with abutments 34 in form of pegs or rolls on the latch-bolt 1. If the latch-pin 6 is axially moved, the angle formed bars 33 push against the abutments 34 on the latch-bolt 1 and remove the latter into the lockcasing.
In the hollow-cylindrical part 12 of the inner handle 7 formed as a turn-button according to the invention a hollow cylindrical space 35 is provided coaxial with the latch-pin 6 in which space is disposed an axially immovable, but rotatable driving-means 36 with an inclined inner area 37 and an outer-handle-piece 38 for a lockingmember 39 with an inclined end-area 40, an axially guided, non-turnable locking-piece 41 and a spring 42. The locking-piece 41 is guided in a slit 69 of the intermediate wall 43 in the cylindrical space 35 of the hollowcylindrical part 12 and extends axially into an end-slit 44 of the rotatable internal control element 26 and into an adjacent end-slit 45 of the non-turnable disposed latchpin 6, to inhibit in this locking position, as shown in Fig. 3, any rotation of the rotatable internal control element 26. In this locking position it is impossible to rotate the rotatable internal control element 26, either by rotating the inner turn-button 7 or by rotating of the cylinder-lock 29 in the outer turn-button 8.
If now this internal control element 26 is in the position in which the locking-member 27 is introduced into the slit 28 of the bolt 1 with the key of the cylinder-lock it is impossible to open the safety lock by the key of the cylinder-lock 29 in the outer turn-button 8 and to remove the bolt 1 into the releasing position by axially The latch-bolt 1 can be removed by axial displacement of the latch-pin in its releasing position only after turning of the driving means 36 at the inner turn-button 7, until the inclined areas 37 and 40 are parallel to each other in juxtaposed position, in which position the locking piece 41 of the locking member 39 is removed from the slits 44 and 45 of the latch-pin 6 and the internal control element 26.
In Figs. 4 to 6 at the inner-turning-button 7 a pushbutton 74 with corresponding transmitting-members is provided, serving as driving-means for the locking member 72. At the locking member 72 there is movably disposed a locking lever 47 with a laterally extending nose 48 at one end, and an abutment 49 at the other end, and
a movable member 50 transversely guided on the locking member 72. This movable member 50 has control areas, inclined to each other and provided with oppositely positioned end abutments 51; 52, for a laterally movable or elastic transmitting plate-like member 53 fixed with one end to the push-button and cooperating with its lower free end with the abutments 51, 52, and the control areas of the movable member 50 for displacing the latter. The push-button 74 is supported upon said movable member 50 by a helical spring 54. For the laterally extending nose 48 of the locking-lever 47 a slit 55 is provided in the wall of the hollow-cylindrical part 12. The lockinglever 47 is held elastically in the locking position by a spring 56. A lengthwise slit 57 in the locking member 72 and a pin 58 fixed in the wall of the hollow-cylindrical part 12 and transversing the slit 57, limit the axial movement of the locking member 72 and prevent rotating of the latter. The plate-like movable member 50 may be guided in a corresponding straight-lined or arc-shaped guide on the locking member 72 transversely to the moving direction of the latterf It is yieldingly held in its end-positions by one or more stops or arresting means 59 in or near these end-positions in such a manner that it rests in the respective position for releasing or locking the locking-member 72, until the push-button 74 is pushed down again. In this manner the movable member 50 is moved, by successive pushing down of the push-button 74, alternately to the right and to the left, and the locking member 72 is moved alternately into the lOCkiIlg-POSlllOll and into the releasing position for the rotatable internal control element 26. i
In the type of push-button driving means for the locking member of the rotatable internal control element 26 according to Figs. 8 to 10, there is provided a platelike locking member 70 corresponding with the locking member 41 in Figs. 1 to 3 with one end rigidly fixed at the push-button 75 being secured against rotat1ng by guiding in the slit 69 of a separating wall 71 1n the hollow space 35 of the hollow-cylindrical part 12 and fixed to the end of the hollow latch-pin 6. A lateral abutment 60 overhanging atone side of the plate-formed locking member 70 cooperates with a hook-shaped holding-piece 61, being pivotally'mounted at the hollow latchfpm 6. The push-button 75 is supported by a helical spring 54, which rests upon the separating wall 71. The hookshaped holding piece 61 -'has an'arc-shaped and downwardly inclined transverse part 62, at which an areshaped or downwardly inclined plate 63 is mounted. The hook-shaped holding piece 61 is pivotally. positioned at a pin or pivot 64 with head 65, between this head 65 and a blade or helical spring 66 with respective movabillty in such a way, that it may have also a position inclined to the pivot 64, as seen in Fig. 12. In the normal vertical position (ready for action) according to Fig. 9 the hook-shaped holding piece 61 is supported against a stop 67 and is pressed by a blade spring 68 against this stop 67 and removed tothis position after each motion.
When pushing the pushbutton 75 down against the action of the spring 54, the lateral nose 60 of the lockingplate 70 slides along the downwardly inclined transverse part 62 of the hook-shaped holding-piece 61 by rotating the holding piece 61 on pivot 64 and is placed behind the transverse piece 62, shown in Figs. 11 and 14'. Thus the locking plate 70 penetrates 'into the end slit 44 of the rotatable internal control element 26 and the latter is locked against rotating movement. When the push-button 75 is pushed again, the lateral nose 60 of the locking-plate "7 0 slides by further rotating of the holding piece 61 behind the downwardly inclined plate 63 of the holding piece 61 (Fig. 15) and slides along this plate 63 ahead of its initial position. In this manner the locking plate 70 moves again to its initial releasing position according to Figs. 9 and 13. The hook-shaped holding piece 61 thereby is instantly displaced in a position somewhat inclined to the locking plate 70 as seen in Fig. 12,
so that the nose 60 and the plate-like locking member 70 are moved by the spring 54 in the upward direction.
