GASTER.
No..290,967. PatentedDec. 25, 1883,
AUNITED STATES PATENT @Ferca CHARLES N. BRADY AND .IABEZ E. RATCLIFFE, OF VELLSBURG, W'. VA.
CASTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 290,967, dated December 25, 1883.
'Y Application led November 13,1853. (Xo model.)
To all whom it 11a/ay concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLns N. BRADY and J ABEZ E. RATOLIFFE, citizens of the United States, residing at Wellsburg, in the county of Brooke and State of Vest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Casters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Our inventionv relates to table-ware; and it consists in the construction and combination in one article of manufacture of a caster frame or stand and a napkin ring or holder, the latter device so adapted and applied to the former as to perform the dual functions pertaining to a napkin-holder and a caster-stand handle,
the stand being provided with novel cup-v shaped seats or receptacles for caster bottles or pots, as shown in the drawings, for salt and pepper or other condiments when in a loose state, or for ink or other material of common every-day use, the stand, cup-shaped receptacles, and combined handle and holder all being formed into one body and of one material, preferably of glass, as will hereinafter be more fully set forth.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective .view of our improved stand and holder, showing the napkin and caster-bottles in their respective receptacles. Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal vertical section of our improved stand, showing elevations of caster-bottles seated in` their cup-shaped receptacles.
Molded onto the stand A is a ring, B, of sufficient diameter to accommodate a rolledupvnapkin, C. This ringlor holder, being centrally located on the upper surface of thestand, is susceptible of being utilized as a handle to the caster-stand. If desired, any style of handle may be used, and napkin-ring formed on end of caster or in any position desired, in combination with the receptacles, as shown. Also molded or stamped into the stand are two or more cupshaped seats or receptacles, D. In these seats are imposed caster bottles or pots E, constructed at their base in such a manner as to fit snugly in and at` the same time admit of their being readily lifted from their seats. These cup-shaped seats or -receptacles are novel, in that they can be directly utilized to hold pepper, salt, or other condiments in their loose state, regardless of bottles or pots, although we prefer to use the latter in combination with the stand.
It is obvious that the napkin-holder may be occupied by a pen-wiper or sponge, and the receptacles occupied by ink either in a loose state or in supplemental stands constructed, as to their base, in shape similar to the casters hereinbefore described.
Although we prefer to make this improved device of glass, and to manufacture it as a caster for holding two caster-bottles and napkin for the use of a single individual, still it is obvious that we can use other well-known materials or compositions in their manufacture; that receptacles for all the condiments generally used at meals can be constructed, and the stand, holder, and receptacles can be used for other purposes without changing the character of our invention.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. As an article of manufacture, the stand,
as described, and the ring, the latter so constructed upon and applied to the former as to perform the dual functions pertaining to a napkin-holder and a caster-stand handle, substantially as set forth.
2. As an article of manufacture, the stand and combined handle and napkin-holder, in combination with cup shaped receptacles, wherein either caster-bottles or condiments in a loose state may be imposed, substantially as set forth.
3. As an article of manufacture, the combination of stand, combined handle and holder, and the receptacles, when molded into one body, substantially as set forth.-
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
CHAS. N. BRADY. JABEZ E. RA'ICLIFFE.
