Description

J. P. HENDERSON.
Evaporating Pan.- No. 29,076. Patented- July .10, i860.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN P. HENDERSON, OF FRANKLIN, LOUISIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ARRANGEMENT OF SUGAR-KETTLE TRAINS.
Specilication forming part Of Letters Patent No. 29.076. dated July 10, 1830.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN P. HENDERSON, of Franklin, in the vparish of St. Marys and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Kettle-Trains for Boiling Sugar; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descripkettles.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several iigures.
My invention consists in the employment, for the purpose of supporting the kettles, of double arches supported partly by the side walls, and partly by pillars or piers between the kettles, by which means I am enabled to construct the canal or flue much wider than when single arches extending all across the canal or iiue are used, as in the ordinarilyconstructed kettletrain, and to obtain more room for the circulation of the flame and heated gaseous products of combustion at the sides of the kettles, and an increased heating effect on those parts.
[ To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the drawings.
A A are the side walls of the flue, or, as it is generally termed, the eanaL B B are the double arches, and C O the piers Or pillars for supporting the inner ends of the same, arranged centrally between the side walls and between` the kettles D D, said piers being erected upon transverse walls E E, such as are commonly called cascades.77 The side walls flare outward in an upward direction, as shown in Fig. 3, so as to give the upper part of the ilue or canal a width at least as great as the upper and widest parts of the pans. F F are the fire-door entrances, which may be in one of the side walls, or in the end wall. The piers C C do not interfere with the draft, but leave the whole width of the ilue open under the kettles.
VhatI claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A range ol` kettles on double arches, B B, supported partly upon the side walls, and partly' upon center piers Or pillars, C C, between tlie kettles, substantially as and for the purpose herein specified.
JOHN I). HENDERSON.
