(Cl. 128-454) This invention relates to a ladies slip, ly to a slip in which the bust section is to form breast cups.

It is an object of this invention to provide a slip of the character described having a unique supporting piece which forms a yoke separation, and which attaches directly to the shoulder straps and takes up the downward pull of the skirt and distributes this force in such a manner that the fitting characteristics of the upper portions of the garment remain unimpaired.

It is a further object to provide a slip which gives a unique adaptability to various types of female bosoms.

It is a further object to provide a slip which adjusts itself automatically to a woman's form without tending to change or crush the foundation contours.

It is a further object to provide a slip, in which, because of the deft way in which the bust section is constructed and joined to the skirt sect-ion, the downward pull of the latter will be transmitted around and therefore will not tend to flatten out the extra fullness required by the bust protrusion.

Referring to the drawings:

Fig. 1 shows a front view, slightly from the side, of a garment embodying this invention, as carried upon the human body; and

Fig. 2 is a full front view of the garment itself on a larger scale.

In the drawings, the numeral represents the skirt portion of the device, the numeral 11 is the body portion which is attached to the skirt portion along a circumferential seam 12, which, as will be seen from the figure, is pointed downwardly at the center of the front as shown at 13, for a reason which will be described.

Attached to the upper edge of the body portion are a pair of breast cups 14, each shaped to fit the underside of a breast. Extending over the upper side of the breasts are supporting members 15, which are attached along the top edge of cups 14 and extend from the shoulder straps 16, meeting at the center line as shown at 17. As will be seen from the figure, these supporting members 15, which at the center extend below the lower edge of the breast cups, as shown at 18, form a V in the top of the body portion of the garment which helps to distribute the strains imposed by movement of the lower portions of the garment on the members 15. The members 15 may be formed of lace, but they are of a type which is substantially non-stretchable in the longitudinal direction, whereby the pull of the shoulder straps 16 is transmitted directly to the body portion of the garment at a point below the breast cups and thereby relieve this pormore particularset into position tion to accommodate the breasts without any possibility of change of shape or contour.

An edging 19 attached along the upper edge of the garment extends from the shoulder straps 16 under the arms and across the back, and up to the other shoulder strap, whereby the supporting strain of the back portions of the garment are imparted directly to the body portion 11 at a point 20 beneath the arms, as well as in the back where the other ends of the shoulder straps are attached, thereby forming a complete circular support from which the whole garment may be suspended from the shoulders of the wearer by means of the W0 shoulder straps and still give complete freedom of movement. This edging is also of a type which resists longitudinal extension.

It will be seen that with this construction the body portion of the garment and the skirt are principally supported by the supporting members 15, the two shoulder straps and the edging 19, and the material comprising the breast cups 14 is not called upon for any support whatsoever thereby leaving this portion to simply accommodate the breast fully. It is for this reason that there is no tendency for weight of the garment or any force applied by a movement of the wearer to flatten the breast cups, and the slip issupported in such a manner as to leave the breast cup portion in a normal position and thereby allow free movement of the body of the wearer within.

It will be seen, moreover, that by reason of the location of the supporting means 16 and 20 the wearer can raise her arms above her head without substantially pulling upwardly on the side of the garment nor'cause serious displacement to be imposed on the breast cup portion. Moreover, because of the fact that the supporting members 15 extend downwardly into the body portion at 18, coupled with the fact that the seam 12 has a V- shaped depression at 13 placed directly below said V portion 18, the strain of the garment which is taken by the supporting members 15 is therefore distributed over a considerable length of the seam 12, thus preventing any distorting strains caused by sudden or extreme movement that might otherwise occur.

What is claimed is:

1. A slip comprising a body portion with a bust portion attached thereto, said bust portion comprising cup members attached to fit the breast, and support members extending downwardly toward the center from each shoulder strap, said support members meeting directly at the center line in V form and extending downwardly and rearwardly from said shoulder straps around the back and fastened at the back to said shoulder straps, whereby when said body portion of the slip is fastened to said support members solely at the apex of the V in the front and completely across the back and thereby be completely supported by said support members, the two spaces in the front wherein the cup members are inserted are left free of load thereon.

2. A slip comprising a body portion, a bust portion and a halter support portion, said bust portion comprising cup members inserted to fit the breast, said halter support portion consisting of two inverted V-members in the front joined by a straight section across the back and the whole supported on two shoulder straps extending from the apices of the V-members rearward to the straight portion, whereby said body portion is fastened to said halter support portion at the apex of the V formed by the two inverted V-members intersecting in the front and across the entire back, leaving the two spaces under the inverted V-members in the front for the insertion of the bust portion.

3. 'A slip in accordance with claim 1 having a body portion made up of a waist section and a skirt section and wherein a seam connects the two sections and is so arranged that the support given by the V above is used to transmit the supporting strain over substantially the whole width of the front.
