Description
f UNITED l STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN BROWN NORTON, OE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BELTfFAsTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,926, dated' December 11, 1883.
' Application filed April 10, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. NORTON, of the city of Philadelphia andState of Pennsylvania, have inventedanew and Improved Means for Fastening Driving-Belts; and Iherebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View, showing 'ends of the belting and the fastening appliances. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal seotiongshowing the same without the lacing; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line xx of Fig. 2.
My invention relates to the strengthening of Inachine-belting, particularly to the prevention of the tearing out of the lacings.
'My invention consists in clipping the ends of the belting between re-enforcing plates, and securing said plates by means of eyelets, whichA pass through both the re-enforcng plates and the belt, the eyelets not only forming-'the means for securing the belting to the plate, but also forming the holes for the reception of the lac- Ing.
In the said drawings, A A are the ends of the belt, over which are lapped re-enforcing plates B, which are secured to the belting by means of eyelets C, which pass coincident holes a bin the plate and belt, respectively. These eyelets are upset at each end. forming a secure. fastening for the plate and openings through which the lacing D'is passed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire'to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the ends of the belt A A, of the perforated re-enforcing plate B and eyelets O, whereby the re-enf'orce plate B is secured to the belt by devices which form the holes adapted to receive thelacing D, sulo- Stantially as described. Y
