in which the same letters of reference indicate the same or corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 .is an elevation of my improved machine for shelling green peas and beans. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same, the top and funnel being removed. Fig. 4. is a plan view of the under side of the top disk, part being broken out. Figs. 5 and 6 are vertical central sections of the machine in planes at right angles to each other.
A circular frame, A, covered with wire-net ting, or otherwise provided with perforations, is inclined downward slightly from the middle toward the edges, and is provided at the mid dlewith a raisedhead, A, having curved sides. The screen Aris also provided with aseries of transverse bars or rods, A on the upper surface, which rods break and open the pods and prevent them from being carried around unbroken. The top or cover B of the machine is above the frame or screen A, andto the under side of the top B is held aring or disk, 0, which is pressed toward the screen A by spiral springs 0, attached to the under surface of the top B, and connected to the said ring 0. The roughened or corrugated ring or disk is held to the under side of the top B by means of screws, rivets, hooks, or any. other suitable device. p

In the head A- of the screen A a movable plate, a, is placed, which is pressed outward by spiral springs a. A hopper, D, is provided on the top B. The top B is suspended by means of arms I) from a nut, E, rigidly mounted. on a vertical shaft, F, on which is mounted a bevel cog-wheel, F, with which a l l bevel cog-wheel,- G, engages, which is mounted on the inner end of a horizontal shaft, G, provided at its outer end with a crank-handle, G whereby the shaft F isadapted to be rotated. The shaft F passes loosely through the head A of the screen A, which head A is secured firmly, by a screw or otherwise, to a cog-wheel, H, which rests loosely on a collar, F", .on the screen A is above a receptacle, K, into which the shelled green peas or beans drop and slide down the inclinedbottom of the same upon a conveyer-belt, L, which will be described hereinafter.
At the edge of the receptacle K a gutter, K, is formed, into which the pods of the peas or beans slide from the screen A, and into this gutter a prong, K projecting from the edge of the screen A, passes.
From the bottom of the shaft F an inclined arm, m, projects upward and rests against the inclined bottom of the receptacle K, and in turning sweeps the shelled peas and pieces of pods mixed with or adhering to them out of the receptacle K through an opening in the same, and causes them to drop upon the conveyer-belt L, which passes over a pulley, M,

A shaft, T, j ournaled in the machine-frame, is provided at its inner end with a beveled cog-wheel, T, engaging with the beveled cogwheel F, and at its outer end with a fiy-wheel, T and a grooved pulley, 0, over which a driving-belt passes, whichalso passes over a pulley, p hung on the shaft of a fan or blower, W, at the lower end-of the conveyer-belt L.
