To all whom it may concern:
Be it; known that I, JGHS F. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States. and a resident of Brooklyn, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rivcting Machines, likewise applicable for punching and shearing metal plates, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvementof the Letters Patent No. 229.795, granted to me on the 13th day of July, 1880; and the object of my invention is to produce a portablemachine for riveting, punching, and shearing metal plates, whereby a greater reach can be obtained than is practicable in the abovement ioned invention; and, further. to obtain the action of the dies square to each other, which particular, when the machine is arranged for punching holes, is ofthe utmost consequence.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I represents a front-view of a rivetinganachine embodying my invention. Fig. II is an end view of the same. Fig. III is airo-nt view of a rivetinganachine, showing same n1odifications, and Fig. 1V is an end view of the same.

A is a frame made in the shape ot'the letter C, to the lower branch or arm of which the lower die, D, is attached. The upper branch orarni of said frame is provided with a suitable hub, B, in \\'lll(i1 tl plunger, E, works freely, to the lower partotwhich the upper die, D, is attached. T is a rod, shorter than the rods R R, the lower end of which is attached to the plunger E by means ofa suitablejoint-pin, a, and the upper end of said rod T is connected to the cross-pin L of the piston-rod.
\Vhen the machine is in the position represented in Fig. I, and pressure is admitted hehind the piston, the pin L will more in the are of the circle described by the rods R R, as the lower (ads f said rods turn on fixed centers 12 n, and will home, at the end of the stroke 'of the piston, to the point L.
During this operation, the rod T being attach-ed at its upper end to this cross-pin L, the lower end of said rod T will be moved downward, moving thereby the plunger E downward, and thus thereby a concentric head. 'When the machine is to be used for punch ingorshearing, suitabletools foreither of these purposes must be substituted in place of the dies D and D. The machines are suspended from the fork or rods .7, so situated as to balance the same. I
