Description

May 26, 1959 G. SCHULTZ 2,888,020
PLASTIC UTILITY HOLDER FOR NAIL ENAMEL BOTTLE Filed March 12. 1958 INVENTOR.
Gwuseuo SGHUL rz United States Patent PLASTIC UTILITY HOLDER FOR NAIL ENAIVIEL BO'ITLE Guillermo Schultz, New York, N.Y.
Application March 12, 1958, Serial No. 720,982
2 Claims. (Cl. 132-735) This invention relates to closures and more particularly to a closure for nail enamel bottles.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a utility stick for nail enamel bottles that may be used for a variety of purposes during the manicuring of finger nails, whereby a single such device readily replaces a larger number of independent single purpose implements.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an attachment for nail enamel bottles that can be selectively used for cleaning, treating, and polishing the fingernails in a simple and eflicient manner.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a utility stick for nail enamel bottles bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view, partly in section, of an accessory for nail polish bottles made in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is an end elevational view of the stick unit forming a part of the present invention removed from the nail enamel bottle closure; and
Figure 3 is an enlarged transverse cross sectional view taken along line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, an accessory for use with a nail polish bottle 13 is shown to include a closure 12 having internal threads for connec tion with the externally threaded neck of the bottle. This closure 12 is preferably constructed of a plastic molded material and has an upwardly facing concave surface 18 that provides a seat for a downwardly facing convex surface 19 at one end of a detachable stick unit 15. The lower end of this detachable stick unit 15 also includes a depending inverted conical point 16 that is releasably received within a similar shaped socket 17 that opens upwardly in the closure cap 12.
Each side of the detachable stick unit 15 is of concave 2,888,020 Patented May 26, 1959 ice surface configuration and has a large number of particles of emery 23a, 12 adhered thereto, the particles 23a on one side of the stick being coarser than the particles 23b on the other side, whereby the unit may be used for roughly and finely finishing the nails. The end surfaces 20 of the stick unit 15 are of angular concave configuration, when viewed in cross section as shown in Figure 3, so as to reduce the width of the stick without reducing the size of the emery surfaces.
An arcuate extension 25 is secured to the uppermost end of the detachable stick unit, such extension being particularly suited for removing the cuticle or polish from fingernails. The point 16 is particularly useful for removing dirt from beneath the fingernails preparatory to the manicuring operation.
In actual use, the detachable stick unit 15 forms an attractive and neat appearing accessory for the closure 12 of any type of nail enamel bottle. It will thus be recognized that many of the manicuring operations can be performed with this single detachable stick unit 15, thus replacing a larger number of independent single purpose implements that are required in this regard. Of course, while the parts are preferably constructed of molded plastic material, it will be recognized that other materials may be used if such is found desirable.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. An accessory for nail polish bottles comprising, in combination, a closure cap having an upwardly facing concave surface, a manicuring stick unit detachably secured to said closure cap, said unit including a self supporting member having a convex surface at one end of substantially the same radius of curvature as said concave surface of said closure cap and in full face engagement therewith, an inverted conical point depending from said one end of said self supporting member, a socket in said closure cap communicating with said concave surface releasably receiving said conical point, said stick unit in cross section including a pair of angularly concave end walls, and a pair of arcuate concave side walls, said side walls tapering upwardly from said one end of said stick unit, and emory particles adhered to each one of said side walls, the particles on one side of said side walls being coarser than the particles on the other side wall.
2. The combination according to claim 1, furth er comprising a thin arcuate extension secured to the opposite end of said stick unit.
