Description

(NoMode'L) E. D. FISHER HORSE COLLAR THROAT. I No.288,5'62. PatjntedNov.13,1883;
Vii-messes UITE Stars ATEN'I union,
EDWARD D. FISHER, OF WOOSTER, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALE TO GEORGE B. MILLER, OF SAME PLACE.
HORSE-COLLAR THROAT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 288,562, dated November 13, 1883. Application filed August 2-1, 1883. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD D. FISHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vooster, in the county of Wayne and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Horse- Collar Throat, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in horse-collar throats; and the object of my improvement is, first, to provide a device for stiffening and strengthening the throat of the collar; second, to provide a metal covering for the collar-throat to resistthe wear of the choke strap of a harness; and, third, to provide a device in conjunction with the throat-piece to more effectually secure the hames upon the collar and prevent them from slipping off at the collar-throat while backing. I attain these objects by the mechanism'illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
scribed, thereby fastening both parts of the device together and securing them upon the collar-rim, as shown,
S is a flat and narrow strip of metal placed upon the outside of the collar-rim opposite to the throat-piece B, constituting the hame-support. The ends of this hame-support S are bent around the collar-rim, so as to connect at each end with the throat-piece B by the rivets R R. This strip S is bent outwardly along the median line of the collar-rim at a a, so as to allow the choke-strap F to pass between it 5 and thecollar-rim, and downwardly, so as to overlap the hame-fastener T, thereby holding the hames H H securely upon the collar, and preventing them from tilting outwardly below or from being forced off the collar while backing. By this arrangement I secure strength and elasticity to the collar-throat and a hearing for the choke-strap F, as well as provide a support for the hames, as above set forth.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In ahorse-collar, the curved throat-piece B, connecting rivets or fastenings R R, and hanie-support S, having a projecting rim, A, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a horse-collar, the combination, with the curved overlapping throat-piece B, of the projecting hame-support S, having curved ends a a, to correspond with the collar-rim O, and flaring rim A, projecting beyond the collar-rim, the throat piece B and ha1ne-support S being adapted to be fastened together upon opposite sides of the collar-rim at the collar-throat, substantially as and for the pur- 7o pose set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand.
EDWARD n. FISHER.
