CHARLES C. CURTIS AND HENRY G. LEWIS, 0E NORTH LANSING, MICHIGAN.
TOY GUN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 287,507, dated October 30, V1883.
' Application filed April 19,1883. `(No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES C. CURTIS and HENRY G. LEWIS, of North Lansing, in the county of Ingham and State of Michigan,
have invented new and useful 'Improvements proved toy. Fig. 2 is a sectional perspective Y of the saine.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a toy gun, preferably made of wood, and has in that portion which represents the barrel, and in the top thereof a longitudinal slot or recess, a, formed therein, and this slot or recess is designed to receive a hoop or ring,B.
C represents a coil-Spring, one end of which is rigidly secured to the under side of the barrel of the gun, and is provided. with an arm, b, which, when at rest, lies upon a stud, c, projecting from the side of the barrel, as shown in dotted outline, Fig. 1.
D is a Spring-detent, one end of which is secured to the outer face of the barrel, while its inner end projects through a slot, c, andV into the base of the slot a, the inner end of i such detent having an elongated slot formed therein, which engages with the upper end of a cam-pin, f E, whichA latter projects upward. from the trigger F.
In practice the hoop is placed in the recess a of the barrel in such manner that the arin b 4o will project into and engage with the inner face of the hoop B. The hoop is then drawn back until it enga-ges with the Spring-.detent D, and draws the arm b of the spring C into the position shown in Fig. l. By now pulling upon the trigger F the spring-detent will be disengaged from the ring B, when the reaction of the spring C will exert its force upon the arm b and cause' the hoop B to roll or shoot out of the recess in the barrel.
What I claimI as any invention is- 1. A toy gun consisting of the gun A, provided with the spring C, for forcibly ejecting the hoop B from the gun, in combination with aSpring-detent for holding the hoop in position, substantially asand for the purposes described. l
2. A toy consisting of the gun A, havingslot a, Spring C, having arm b, spring-detent D, cam-pin E, and trigger F, when construct- 6o ed, arranged, and operating substantially as and-for the purposes described.
Vitnesses J. L. MEAD, IRA SCOTT.
