1 Claim. (Cl. 339-141) This invention relates to electric light sockets.
An object of this invention is to provide an improved electrical socket embodying an outer shell formed of separable complementary shell members.
Another object of this invention is to provide and improved outer shell for an electric socket which is formed of a pair of hingedly connected together shell members with an improved means for releasably locking the shell members together.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawings, and first to Figs. 1 to 6, inclusive, the numeral 20 designates generally a shell adapted to engage about a light socket construction. The shell 20 is formed of a dome-shaped cap 21 having a nipple or boss 22 extending upwardly therefrom with a set screw 23 threaded through the nipple 22 for securing an insulated bushing within the nipple 22 and through which the electric conductor is adapted to be extended.
The cap 21 has formed integral therewith a semi-cylindrical shell body 24 which is provided at its lower end with a reduced neck 25 having a semi-circular head 26 with fragmentary threads 27. The shell 20 also includes a second semi-cylindrical body 28 formed at its upper end with a pair of lugs 29 through which securing members 30 extend. The securing members 30 are also extended or threaded through lugs 31 carried by the upper end of the semi-spherical body 24. The body 28 at its upper end is formed with a narrow inwardly projecting flange 32 which is adapted to engage about a semi-cylindrical outwardly projecting flange 33 which is formed on the lower edge of the body 21. The body 28 also includes a reduced diameter neck 34 confronting neck 25 and also includes a semi-circular bead 35 and fragmentary threads 36 which cooperate with threads 27 to form complete threads at the lower end of the shell 20. The body 28 is adapted to be locked relative to the body 24 by means of a pair of V-shaped locking members 37 which are carried by the inner edges of the neck 25 and the locking members 27 are adapted to engage V-shaped keepers 38 which are formed in the free edges of the neck 34. The neck 34 is provided with a cut-out 39 between the inner ends of each keeper 38 for receiving a tool or finger nail in order to release the locking members 37 from the keepers 38.
What is claimed is:
An electric light socket shell comprising a dome shaped cap, a depending semi-cylindrical shell member integral with said cap, a complementary semi-cylindrical shell member, lugs carried by the upper end of said first mentioned shell member, complementary overlapping ears carried by the upper end of said second mentioned shell member, pivot means extending through each ear and its associated lug for pivotally mounting said second mentioned shell member relative to said first mentioned shell member, a V-shaped locking member extending from each side edge of said first mentioned shell member and a confronting coacting V-shaped keeper formed in each side edge of said second mentioned shell member.
