HOLDERS FOR A RoLL OF PAPER Filed Jan. 20, 1956 Fig.1
MW 0M4,
HGLDERS FOR A ROLL OF PAPER Per Erland Daniel Andersson, Ha, Sweden, assignor to B Olof Kaller, Enskede, Sweden Application January 20, 1956, Serial No. 560,453
Claims priority, application Sweden September 26, 1955 Claims. (Cl. 312-39) The present invention relates to a holder for a roll of paper, such as toilet paper, or similar sheet material of the type in which the roll rests against the rear wall of the holder and on a bottom wall which is inclined downwardly towards said rear wall, the sheet being intended to be drawn off between the rear wall and the rear edge of the bottom wall. This invention is characterised by the feature that the downward inclination of the bottom wall increases adjacent the rear wall.
This has the eifect that the friction of the roll against the bottom wall and the rear wall is maintained substantially unchanged in spite of the fact that the diameter of the roll is reduced as the sheet is used up. A substantially uniform friction is of the greatest importance in order that the roll'shall rest securely in the holder and in order that a suitable resistance shall be obtained when the sheet is drawn from the roll irrespectively of the roll diameter.
To facilitate gripping of the freely hanging free end of the sheet, in a suitable embodiment of the invention, the portion of the rear wall against which the roll rests is inclined downwardly and forwardly, so that the de pending end will be at a suitable distance from a wall or similar element on which the holder is fastened.
The invention will be explained in detail below with reference to an embodiment thereof shown by way of example on the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a holder embodying this invention in perspective view.
Fig. 2 shows the holder in-cross-section.
The holder shown on the drawing comprises two sidewalls 1 and 2, between which there extends a bottomwall which is inclined rearwardly and downwardly. The rear end portions of the side-walls 1 and 2 are bent perpendicularly to form rear wall portions 4 and 5 which have holes 6 to enable the holder to be attached to a wall or the like. The rear end portions of the side-walls are then cut off and bent so as to form supporting elements 7 and 8 which are inclined forwardly and downwardly and which serve as rear supports or a rear wall for a roll of paper or the like placed in the holder. The roll is States Par indicated with dot-and-dash lines in Fig. 2 and is shown by difference in diameter as a full roll 12 and as partially used up roll 12'. As seen from the drawing, the rear edge of the bottom wall 3 is spaced from the lower forward edges of the supporting elements 7, 8 so as to form an opening 9, through which the sheet will be drawn and then torn off with the aid of an arcuate toothed tear edge 10 depending from the forward edge of the bottom wall 2. In order that the roll shall rest steadily and obtain the desired resistance when drawn from the roll independently of the reduced diameter of the roll, the inclination of the bottom wall increases towards the rear edge, i. e. at the place indicated with 11.
The fact that the rear wall is formed with the down wardly and forwardly inclined supporting elements results, as indicated above, in the effect that it is easy to grip the hanging end of the sheet.
Having now particularly described the nature of my invention and the manner of its operation what I claim is:
l. A holder for a roll of sheet material comprising, in combination, a rear wall, a bottom wall inclined downwardly from the end to the rear end thereof relative to said rear wall, said bottom wall being spaced forwardly from said rear wall to define an opening for receiving a web of paper thercthrough, the opening defining edge portion of said bottom wall presenting a convex surface facing said rear wall for supporting a roll of sheet material diminishing in diameter.
2. A holder for a roll of sheet material comprising, in combination, a rear surface, a bottom surface inclined downwardly from the front extremity to the rear extremity thereof relative to said rear surface and presenting a support surface of simple convex curvature facing said rear surface, the angle defined by said rear surface and tangents of said convex surface decreasing uniformly in a direction toward said rear surface.
3. A holder as set forth in claim 2 wherein said rear surface defines a paper web receiving opening with said convex bottom surface.
4. A holder as set forth in claim 3 wherein said rear surface is substantially flat.
5. A holder as set forth in claim 4 wherein said bottom surface defines a uniformly increasing acute angle with a horizontal plane from said forward extremity to said rear extremity, and said facing rear surface defines an obtuse angle with said horizontal plane.
