UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE.
CHARLES DANIEL, OF BUTLER, MISSOURI.
GATE-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,912, dated October 16, 1883. Application filed June 5, was. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, CHARLES DANIEL, of Butler, Bates county, Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Gate-Hanger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion.
My invention consists of an improved rollerand-hinge device for gates which open by both sliding and swinging, comprising a bracket for the roller on which the gate slides, which is reversible for right or left hand attachment, and has guide-roller studs for supporting friction-rollers to guide the sides of the gate-bars, the said bracket being a simple device contrived in such form that it may be molded and cast without the use 'of cores, all as hereinafter fully described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a side elevation of my improved gate-hanger, with a part of the post to which it is attached, and also part of the gate. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the hanger and its post, with dotted lines indicating part of the gate; and Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 2 on line an ac.
For supporting and guiding the sliding gate by one of its rails a, or horizontal bars, I make a roller-bracket, consisting of the yoke b and flange 0, adapted to be bolted to the hinge-post (1, either side up, and cast with bearing-cavities d in both the upper and lower sides for the pivots of the roller 9, on which the gate slides, and also with guide-roller studs e, projecting from both sides, to carry side guides, f, for the rail a. The flange 0 extends alike each way from the bar of the yoke 11, with which it is cast, so that it is bolted to post d above and below the yoke alike, Whichever side up it may be turned, and it is cast with slots for the attaching-bolts h, which avoids coring for the holes.
The post d, to which the hanger is to be attached,v is in practice to be fixed on pivots, so that it, together with the hanger, forms a device on which the gate hinges. In working the gate it is to be shoved along the hanger to the middle, or thereabout, so that it balances on the hanger suitably for swinging on the post.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved gate-hanger, consisting of yoke b, having roller-bearing cavities d and guide-roller studs 6 on both upper and lowei sides, and having an attaching-plate, 0, adapted for attaching said hanger either side up, sub stantially as described.
