2 Claims. (Cl. 222-180) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cap devices for bottles and other containers.
More particularly, the present invention proposes the construction of an improved cap device for holding bottles and other containers which can be used normally to hold a bottle or other container suspended in closed ver-.
tical position but which will automatically open the pouring opening when the bottle or other container is tilted into pouring position or raised from suspension.
Still further, the present invention proposes forming the cap device with a cap adapted removably to fit on a bottle or other container and having a pouring top opening and spaced side trunnions pivotally to mount a bail on the cap for a closure portion of the bail in unpivoted position to cover the pouring top opening.
As a further object, the present invention proposes constructing the cap and hail with a resilient means normally to bias the bail into apivoted position where the pouring opening of the cap is open.
Still further, the present invention proposes forming the bail with a suspension bracket for the bail, cap and bottle or other container to be vertically suspended so that the bail closure portion will close the pouring opening of the cap.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

A U-shaped bail 26 with spaced arms 27 and 28 is pivotally mounted on the cap 16, the arms 27 and 28 being pivotally mounted on the trunnions 19 and 20.
Bail 26 has a bight 29 carrying a closure block 30 which has an inclined face 31 adapted removably to mate with the slanting top surface 25 of the pouring sleeve 24 and cover the pouring opening 23 in the cap 16.
A coil spring 32 encircles trunnion 19 and has an end 33 secured to the cap 16 and an end 34 secured to the arm 27 of the bail 26. Spring 32 normally holds the bail 26 tilted or pivoted so that the pouring opening 23 of the cap 16 is open and uncovered by closure block 30 of bail 26.
A suspending bracket 35 extends from the bail 26 at the fork and over the closure block 30 of the bail. Bracket 35 has a cord opening 36. A long flexible cord 37 is secured to the bracket 35 through opening 36 to hold the cap suspended by the bail and to hold any bottle or other container secured to the cap also suspended.
In the suspended position, the bail closure block 30 covers the pouring opening of the cap so that the pouring opening cannot spill or leak the contents of the container.
When the bottle or container is lifted or tilted from vertical suspension to relieve the cord of the weight of the container, the spring 32 moves the bail and bail closure so that the pouring opening of the cap is uncovered.
The modification of the invention illustrated in Fig. 7 is characterized by a cap 40 having a bail 41 with a fork 42 and two arms 43 and 44, anda closure block 45 which is made of resilient material such as rubber or plastic tightly to seal a pouring opening 46 in cap 40 so that aromas, and other volatile fluids will not escape.
The modification illustrated in Figs. 8 and 9 is characterized by the provision of a cap 50 having a bail 51 pivotally mounted thereon and a leaf spring 52 secured to the cap and having a free end 53 hearing against one arm 54 of the bail. A holding member 55 on the cap is provided for the spring.
The modification of the invention illustrated in Figs. l0, l1 and 12 is characterized by the provision of a cap I 60 and a bail 61 with a resilient block 6 2 secured to the cap and a bearing pin 63 secured to one arm 64 of the bail 61 and adapted to bear against the resilient block.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent 1s:
1. A closure and support for a tubular container, comprising a generally cylindrical, internally threaded cap adapted for removably securing a threaded nipple of the container, a cap having a pair of trunnions, a U-shaped bail extending over the cap and having arms pivotally mounted on the trunnions, said cap having a pouring sleeve terminating in a slanting top surface defining a pouring opening thereat, said bail having a bight portion, a closure block carried on said bight portion, said block having an inclined face for fitting against said slanting top surface to close "said opening, a long flexible cord secured to theblock for vertically supportin'gth'e cap and container in axial alignment with the cord with the Weight of the container holding said slanting top surface and said inclined 'face "in abutment "a'nd'a coil' spring encircling 5 one of the trunnions and having one end secured to the cap while the otherend is 's ecu'redft'o one of said arms, said coil spring normallybiasingthe closure block "out of engagement With said sleeve when the container is 1,503,187 lifted to relieve the cord of the weight of the container. 10 2,214,826
