Description
Dec. 23, 1958 R KUNZE 2,865,382,
HAIR CURLING AND WAVING DEVICE Original Filed March 22, 1956 1 INVENTOR. WHLLEAM AROGET KUNZE United States Patent "ice HAIR CURLING AND WAVENG Bill Hill William A. Roget Kunze, Miami Beach, Fla.
Substituted for abandoned application Serial No. 573,269, March 22, 1956. This application June 6, 1958, Serial No. 740,436
2 Claims. Cl. 132-42 This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hair curling and waving devices. This is a substitute for my former application filed on March 22, 1956, Serial Number 573,269, now forfeited.
More particularly, the present invention proposes the construction of an improved permanent wave rod for cold waving and curling hair which can be used either with home cold-wave sets or in professional cold wave applications.
As a further object, the present invention proposes forming the permanent wave rod so that hair waved with it will not only resemble natural waved hair but will retain its wave as long as any properly executed cold wave using croquignole rods.
Still further, the present invention proposes providing apparatus and a method whereby hair can be cold waved or curled so that after repeated washings it can be combed into shape without the aid of a setting.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings. and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a permanent wave rod constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the opposite side.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the structure shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5--5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a side view similar to Fig. 5 but showing the resilient member bent through the slot opening in the winding post held by the holding member or crossbar.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the permanent wave rod of the present invention is designated generally by the reference numeral 15.
Rod has a base 16 with a winding post 17 extending upright with one end 18 connected with the base 16 and a free tapered end 19. Winding post 17 has an axial longitudinal slot opening 20 extending from the free tapered end 19 and terminating short of the base 16.
An elastic cord or resilient member 21 has an end 22 secured to the base 16 adjacent the slot opening 20 of the winding post 17 and a free end 23.
A locking member or crossbar 24 has ends 25 and 26 and is secured intermediate the ends 25 and 26 to the resilient member 21 at-the free end 23 of member 21.
Patented Dec. 23, 1958 Base 16 has a U-shaped portion 27 at one side. This portion 27 has free ends 28 and 29 which extend outwardly.
Hair is wound on each of a number of the rods 15 in clock and counterclockwise fashion to resemble a pattern for a setting. The hair is then properly saturated With a cold wave lotion and processed the proper length of time for the lotion. The lotion is then rinsed on while tne hair is still on the rods with warm to hot Water. The hair is tnen saturated with a neutralizer which is left on the hair for tne requisite time required by the particular neutralizer used. The neutralizer is then rinsed on"; after removal of the hair trom the rods. The hair may tnen be placed into a setting or just combed into a natural wave or curl look.
While 1 have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made Within the scope of the invention as defined in tne appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent 1s:
1. A permanent wave rod for cold waving and curling hair comprising a circular base with a winding post extending perpendicularly thereto and having an axial longitudinal slot opening, a resilient member having one end secured to the base adjacent the slot opening of the winding post and a free end, and a locking member on the resilient member at the free end thereof adapted to coact with the slot opening in the winding post, said winding post tapering from the base outwardly with the axial longitudinal 'slot opening extending from the free tapered end of the post and terminating short of the base, said locking member being acrossbar having free ends and secured midway said free ends to the resilient member, said base having a U-shaped portion at one side thereof with free ends extending outwardly.
2. A permanent wave rod for cold Waving and curling hair comprising a circular base with a winding post extending perpendicularly thereto and an axial longitudinal slot opening, a resilient member having one end secured to the base adjacent the slot opening of the winding post and a free end, and a locking member on the resilient member at the free end thereof adapted to coact with the slot opening in the winding post, said winding post tapering from the base outwardly with the axial longitudinal slot opening extending from the free tapered end of the post and terminating short of the base, said locking member being a cross-bar having free ends and secured midway said free ends to the resilient member, said resilient member being an elastic cord, said base having a U-shaped portion at one side thereof with free ends extending outwardly.
