Claims. (Cl. 273-30) This invention relates to gamingnets as employed for thegameof `table tennis or the like. More particularly, this invention relates to an unique fastening arrangement for attaching the lgaming net-to thejtable. This application is a continuation-in-part of U. S. patent application Serial No. 602,316, iiled August `6, 1956, by applicant for Gaming Net Fastening Arrangement which is now abandoned.

`It is an object ofthis invention to provide an unique fastening arrangement for attaching al gaming net to a tennis table.

Still another object of this invention ist'o provide an unique fastening arrangementfor securing fa gaming net, properlytensioned, to a tennis table.

And still another object of this invention is to provide a table tennis net fastening arrangement which is economical to manufacture, efcient and reliable in 'operation,and which is easy to maintain. v

Still even another object of this invention isto provide a table tennis net fastening arrangement which can be readily adjusted for tables of different widths.

And still even another object of this invention is to provide a fastening arrangement for a gaming net which can rapidly `be adjusted to vary the tension of the net, as required.

Still another object of this invention-is to providean unique fastening arrangement for securing a gaming net, properly tensioned, to a tennis table made up of at least two sections, which are integrally coupled together by said fastening arrangement.

To provide a table tennis set fastening arrangement which can be used simultaneously to tension a gaming net and for integrally coupling sections of a tennis table together is still another object of this invention.

These and other objects and advantages of this invention will become more readily understood from the accompanying specification and drawing in which:

Referring now to Fig. 1 of the drawing, there is illustrated a tennis table 10. Tennis table can be formed of one integral piece with a top 12 and a plurality of legs 50. Preferably, however, the tennis table 10 is formed of two

52 and 54 placed end to end and coupled together by a pair of unique adjustable fastening arrangements 16. These fastening arrangements 16, in turn, support a tennis net 14. These unique fastening arrangements 16 comprise this invention.

Referring now to Figs. 2, 3, and 4 of the drawing, one of the fastening arrangements 16 is illustrated in detail. Each fastening arrangement 16 consists of a removable bracket 18 having a pair of V-shaped slots 20 and 22 nited States Patent ICC formed in the lower edge thereof. These slots 20 and 22 are providediin eachbracket 18, kas pointed out, in order to fasten it to its corresponding pins 24. Pins 24, `in turn, are secured to the sides v26 .of 'the sections 54 and A52 of the table 10, and they have enlarged heads 28spaced from the sides 26. Each fastening arrangement 16 also has an `L-shaped bracket 30, consistingof alhorizontally extending member 32 and a vertically extending member 34. The bracket 301is utilized for holding .one end-of the net 14. The free end of thehorizontally extending member 32 is secured to the bracket 18 by suitable means, such as by a downwardly extending flange rivet thereto, by welding, or it can be formed integral therewith, as shown.

The vertically extending member 34 of the bracket 30 is provided with a pair of spaced openings 36 for receiving threaded members 38 having lock or Wing nuts 40 located on the vfree ends `thereof for adjusting the tension on the net l14.

Each fastening arrangement 16 is also provided with a tubular member 42 which is located parallel to and spaced from the vertically extending member 34. This *tubular member l42 is provided with a pair of spaced threaded openings (not shown) corresponding' to the spaced openings .36in the vertically extending members 34'and arranged opposite therefrom. The ends of the threaded members 38 are received in these threaded openings in the tubular member 42 in order to `secure the tubular member to the upwardly extending member 34.

Tubularfmember 42 is provided with a slot 44 which extends along the longitudinallength kthereof and terminating short of the `lower end of the Vmember -so that the net 14 will not slip out the lower end of the tubular member. One end 48 of the net 14 is inserted in this slot 44, and then the edges of the slot are forced together by suitable means to secure the end 48 of the net 14 to the tubular member 42. A suitable clamp or clamps can be provided to force the edges of the slot 44 together to hold the end 48 of the net 14, if desired.

In operation, the opposite ends 48 of the net 14 are inserted in the slots 44 provided in the tubular member 42 and the edges of the slots are pressed together either by use of a clamp or clamps, or by a suitable tool. It is to be noted that this is only done after a net 14 of suilicient width has been measured out for the table 10 which the net is to be used on.

The net 14 is placed across the table top 12, and the slots 20 and 22 of the brackets 18 are inserted between the enlarged heads 28 of the pins 24 and the sidewalls 26 of the sections 52 and S4 of the table 10, as best seen in Figs. l, 2, and 4. The lock or wing nuts 40 on the threaded members 38 are then adjusted to place the desired tension on the net 14. Thus, the fastening arrangements 16 can be used to lock

52 and 54 together, and are simultaneously adjustable for placing the net 14 with the proper tension. The various parts of the fastening arrangements 16 cooperate in that they are first assembled .to the

table sections

54 and 52, and then adjusted for the net 14. It is obvious, therefore, that the fastening arrangements 16 illustrated make it possible to use the net with various size tables 10, table sections, and to place various tensions on the net 14. In the event the net 14 is too long, part of the 3 end 48 can be cut off so that the net can be shortened and then the remaining end is placed in the slot 44 provided in the movable tubular member 42.

Obviously many other modifications and variations of the present invention are possible in light of the above teachings. It is, therefore, to be understood that within the scope of the appended claims the invention may be practiced otherwise than as specifically described.

What is claimed is:

l. A table-net support arrangement, for a table formed of two sections arranged end to end, comprising, a garning net having opposite ends, a tubular member located at each end of said gaming net, each tubular member having a longitudinal slot formed therein and extending from one end thereof and terminating short of the other end thereof for receiving one end of said net and locking it in position in its corresponding tubular member, means including a pair of brackets each having a first vertically extending portion, a horizontally extending intermediate portion, and a second vertically extending portion and having the vertically extending portions of said brackets ofIset from each other for supporting each tubular member, each said tubular member being spaced from its corresponding rst vertically extending portion of each said bracket, means positioned between the first vertically extending portion of each of said brackets and its corresponding tubular member to position said tubular members with respect to each said iirst vertically extending portions so as to adjust the tension in said gaming net, the second vertically extending portion of eachof said brackets having a pair of spaced notches formed therein, and means on each of said table sections engageable with each of said notches for securing each of said second vertically extending portions of said brackets to its corresponding side of a table to position said gaming net between the sides of said table and to lock said table sections together.

2. An arrangement as recited in claim 1, wherein the means positioned between one end of each of said brackets and its corresponding tubular member consists of at least one screw member having a wing nut therefor.

3. An arrangement as recited in claim 2, wherein the means engageable in each of said notches for securing each second vertically extending portions of said brackets to its corresponding side of a table consists of mating pins having enlarged heads, with the other end of each of second vertically extending portions of said brackets being positioned between the enlarged heads of the mating pins and the sides of the table.

4. An arrangement as recited in claim 2, wherein the ends of said vertically extending portions of each of said brackets are arranged parallel but spaced from each other.

5. A table net support arrangement, comprising, a gaming net having opposite ends, a tubular member located at each end of said gaming net, each tubular member having a longitudinal slot formed therein and extending from one end thereof and terminating short of the other end thereof for receiving one end of said net and locking it in position in its corresponding tubular member, means including a pair of brackets each having a first vertically extending portion, a horizontally extending intermediate portion, and a second vertically extending portion and having the vertically extending portions of said brackets offset from each other for supporting each tubular member, each said tubular member being spaced from its corresponding first vertically extending portion of each said bracket, means positioned between the iirst vertically extending portion of each of said brackets and its corresponding tubular member to position said tubular members with respect to each said iirst vertically extending portions so as to adjust the tension in said gaming net, the second vertically extending portions of each of said brackets having a pair of spaced notches formed therein, and means engageable with each of said notches for securing each of said second vertically extending portions of said brackets to its corresponding side of a table to position said gaming net between the sides of said table.
