SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 285,208, dated September 18, 1883.

To all whom itmay concern.-

Be it known that I, Josnrn HULL BARTINE, of Etna, in the county of Scotland and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Tables and Cupboards, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification. 1

The object of this invention is to provide a folding extension table in combination with a cupboard, which latter mayalso be used as a Qbook-case and a bureau; and the invention consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my combined table and cupboard, showing the table folded. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, showing the table extended; and Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views. Fig. 5 is a plan view of Fig. 2, showing the top re moved and the table and sink folded into the recess.

A indicates a frame having drawers B B, adapted to slide through the same from side to side. Above the upper drawer B, in a suitable space provided therefor, the extension-table C may be folded. This table consists of two parallel series of hinged parts, D,

.securedat one end in said space, and having a sink, E, attached to the other or outer ends thereof, which is provided with legs F and -a folding leaf, G. These hinged parts are adapted to be folded upon each other behind the sink, which latter is to be inserted after the parts D into the said space, like a drawer. When the sink is thus shut within the frame A, the legs F will rest against thefront of said frame, and the leaf G will cover the upper part of the legs. A number of removable leaves or boards, H, are to be provided, which are to be laid across the hinged parts D when l the latter are extended, to form the top of the table.

I indicates a leg having a crosspiece provided with notches i for receiving the lower edges of the two series of parts D when the table is extended so far as to need intermediate support. By providing for the extension of the table in a direction at right angles to that in which the drawers B are moved, the latter may be conveniently opened when the table is extended.

When the table is folded into frame A, the sink may be reached by simply lifting the hinged part J of the frame A, which covers 'the sink.

On top of the frame Ais a case, K, for holding tableware, or for storing provisions. This case is provided with shelves L, and is closed by a door, M, which slides in suitable guides or cleats from side to side, in order that it may be opened without interfering with anything placed on the table. The door, or a part of it, may be made of glass, and the case may be rigidly securedto the frame A by hooks or other expedients. for holding books, and the entire invention is suitable for various uses in housekeeping or in business offices, and is generally commendable where economy of space is required.

What I claim is The combination of the frame A, having the top lid, J, and a recess thereunder, and the extension-table 0, having the movable sink E and the hinged parts D, adapted to fold behind the sink and to be moved with the latter into the said recess, substantially as shown and described.
