VIn' operation, the pushpbutton 35 will be pressed inwardly to open the valve and to permit the compressed air to ow from air line 31 into the housings 61 and 62 and thence through the portions 72, 71 and 70 upwardly into the cup-shaped members 61 and 62, forcing the latter downwardly in piston-like action against the action of springs. 66.V This will lower the gripper members 67 to the position of Figs. 7 and 8, whereupon they are brought into tensional engagement with the base of the tooth 69 by squeezing handles 11 and 12.V Upon release of the button 35, the lspring-345 will disconnect the air line 31 and will permit the compressed air within the cup-shaped members 61 and 62 to escape rearwardly Y 'through the L-shaped bore-31 of the piston 33 and then outwardly of cylinder 28 through opening 42, thus permitting the springs 66 to snap the cup-shaped members 61 and 62 upwardly and thereby snapping the gripper memlt will be noted stops for the cup-shaped members 61 and 62.

VHaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. A dental forceps comprising a pair of handles pivot-VV 4 whereby to move said piston-like members downwardly against the action of said spring means.
2. A dental forceps comprising a pair of handles pivoted together, each of said handles having connected thereto a jaw, the outer ends of each of said jaws ybeing hollow, a piston-like member slidable within each of said hollow ends, spring means for normally/.retaining said piston-like members in a raised position, external tooth gripping members at the bottom of each of said jaws and connected to saidypiston-likejmembers, and means for supplying compressed air toeach of said hollow jaw ends whereby to move saidpiston-like members downwardly against the actionnof said'l springl means, said last-mentioned means comprising a hollow cylindrical member forming a bearing for pivotally connecting said handles together, a hollow extension extending rearwardly from said cylindrical member and communicating with the interior thereof, a hollow transverse 'cylindrical member at the endof said hollow extension, means for connecting the side of said transverse cylindrical member remote from said extension toV a compressed air line,l a piston within said hollow transverse shaft, said piston having ay rst bore adapted to connect-'said extension with the'air line, said pistonl having a second substantially L-Shaped boreadapted to connect said extension with the interior of said transverse cylinder, said transverse cylinder `having an opening, spring'means for urging 'said firstbore of said piston out of alignment -Vwith said extension, a laterally extending rod connected to said piston, andan enlarged button'on the end of' said rod, said-rodfpassing through an opening provided in one of said handles, said jaws having longitudinally extending bores, said first cylindrical member having a pair Vof openings connecting the interior thereof with said jawbores. i

A dental forceps-comprising a pair of substantially S-shaped members, each of said members having a jawk portion and a handle portionv connectedby a attened portion, means for pivotally connecting saidV flattened portions, eachI of said jaws atthe endsv thereof on adjacent faces having cutout portions, a pair of closed rectangular housings securedwwithins'a'id cutout portions, a pairof lsubstantially cup-shaped members within eachiof said housings, said cup-shaped members vbeing open on the top and adapted for sliding movement within said housings, downwardly extending members connected to thel bottom of each of said cuprshaped members extenddownwardly extending members and'adaptedto retain said cup-shaped members in an upper 'position with said gripping members retracted, and meansv for supplying compressed air to said cup-shaped members whereby to urge the same downwardly -against theaction of said spring means.

the bottoms of said downwardly extending ,'members, said gripper members being adapted when broughtl together to engage the base of a tooth, spring means surrounding Said 'downwardly' extending members and'Y adaptedtrire-l assente Ei U tain said cup-shaped members in an upper position with said gripping members retracted, means for supplying compressed air to said cup-slpaped members whereby to urge the same downwardly against the action of said spring means, said last-mentioned means comprising said ilattened portions having aligned bores, a cylindrical member within said aligned bores, said cylindrical member having a hollow bore, each of said jaws having a longitudinal bore extending from said housings to said cylindrical member, said cylindrical member having secondary bores communicating with said longitudinal jaw bores, each of said housings having an opening communicating with said longitudinal bores, a depending, hollow communicating at one end with the interior of said cup-shaped members and at the other end with said openings provided in said housings, and means for supplying compressed air to the interior bore of said cylindrical member.
5. A dental forceps comprising a pair of substantially S-shaped members, each of said members having a jaw portion and a handle portion connected by a flattened portion, means for pivotally connecting said attened portions, each of said jaws at the ends thereof on adjacent faces having cutout portions, a pair of closed rectangular housings secured within said cutout portions, a pair of substantially cup-shaped members within each of said housings, said cup-shaped members being open on the top and adapted for sliding movement within said housings, downwardly extending members connected to the bottom of each of said cup-shaped members extending downwardly and slidably through the bottoms of said housings, a pair of tooth gripper members connected to the bottoms of said downwardly extending members, said gripper members being adapted when brought together to engage the base of a tooth, spring means surrounding said downwardly extending members and adapted to retain said cup-shaped members in an upper position with said gripping members retracted, means for supplying compressed air to said cup-shaped members whereby to urge the same downwardly against the action u of said spring means, said last-mentioned means comprising said attened portions having aligned bores, a cylindrical member within said aligned bores, said cylindrical member having a hollow bore, each of said jaws having a longitudinal bore extending from said housings to said cylindrical member, said cylindrical member having secondary bores communicating with said longitudinal jaw bores, each of said housings having an opening communicating with said longitudinal bores, a depending, hollow member communicating at one end with the interior of said cup-shaped members and at the other end with said openings provided in said housings, means lfor supplying compressed air to the interior bore of said cylindrical member, said last-mentioned means comprising a hollow rearwardly extending portion connected to said irst cylindrical member, a transverse hollow cylindrical member at the end of said rearwardly extending member, a piston valve within said transverse cylindrical member, a hollow extension on said transverse cylindrical member, means for supplying compressed air to said extension, said valve having a rst bore adapted to connect said extension with said rearwardly extending portion, a spring intermediate said valve and one end of said transverse cylindrical member, said cylinder surrounding said spring having an outlet opening, said valve having a second substantially L-shaped bore adapted to connect said rearwardly extending portion with said outlet opening upon compression of said spring, and means for moving said piston against the action of said spring.

A dental forceps comprising a pair of substantially S-shaped members, each of said members having a jaw portion and a handle portion connected by a attened portion, means for pivotally connecting said dattened porv tions, each of said jaws at the ends thereof on adjacent faces having cutout portions, a pair of closed rectangular housings secured within said cutout portions, a pair of substantially cup-shaped members within each of said housings, said cup-shaped members being open on the top and adapted for sliding movement within said housings, downwardly extending members connected to the bottom of each of said cup-shaped members extending downwardly and slidably through the bottoms of said housings, a pair of tooth gripper members connected to the bottoms of said downwardly extending members, said gripper members being adapted when brought together to engage the base of a tooth, spring means surrounding said downwardly extending members and adapted to re tain said cup-shaped members in an upper position with said gripping members retracted, means for supplying compressed air to said cup-shaped members whereby to urge the same downwardly against the action of said spring means, said last-mentioned means comprising said ilattened portions having aligned bores, a cylindrical member within said aligned bores, said cylindrical member having a hollow bore, each of said jaws having a longitudinal bore extending from said housings to said cylindrieal member, said cylindrical member having secondary bores communicating with said longitudinal jaw bores, each of said housings having an opening communicating with said longitudinal bores, a depending, hollow member communicating at one end with the interior of said cup-shaped members and at the other end with said openings provided in said housings, means for supplying compressed air to the interior bore of said cylindrical member, said last-mentioned means comprising a hollow rearwardly extending portion connected to said first cylindrical member, a transverse hollow cylindrical member at the end of said rearwardly extending member, a piston valve within said transverse cylindrical member, a hollow extension on said transverse cylindrical member, means for supplying compressed air to said extension, said valve having a first bore adapted to connect said extension with said rearwardly extending portion, a spring intermediate said Valves and one end of said transverse cylindrical member, said cylinder surrounding said spring having an outlet opening. said valve having a second substantially L-shaped bore adapted to connect said rearwardly extending portion with said outlet opening upon compression of said spring, and means for moving said piston against the action of said spring, said means for connecting said extension to an air line comprising said extension being externally threaded and adapted to receive thereon an internally threaded adaptor connected to the air line, said means for moving said piston against the action of said spring comprising a piston rod extending outwardly and terminating in an e11- larged button, one of said handle portions having an opening receiving said piston rod therethrough.
