Description

I (No'ModeL) W. J. FLOWERS.
GULTIVATOB. No. 284,403. Patente ,WITNESSESK INVENTOR: fl/JJJM W MMM BY ATTORNEYS.
WILLIAM J. FLOWERS,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF RONDO, MIssouRI.
CULTIVATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 284,403, dated September 4', 1883.
' Application filed April 2'1, 1883. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern: Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. FLowERs, of Rondo, in the county of Polk and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Two -Row Corn-Cultivator, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention pertainsto an improvement in cultivators; and it consists of the combination and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafterfully set forth and claimed.
Reference is, to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my two-row cultivating-machine. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same.
A is the axle, which is arched twice and in a similar manner to two -horse cultivators. On this axle are hung four double plows, B, or four sets of double shovels similar to those used in ordinary cultivators, and these are connected in pairs by bent connecting-rods C, so that one handle, G, connected to each rod, shall serve to raise and lower both plows of the ,pair, thereby rendering it unnecessary to have more than two handles.
To the arches of the axle A are connected shafts D D, which are arranged for using three horses. The shafts are provided next to the axle with doubleftrees E, which serve to equal: ize the draft, and upon the outer ends of the shafts are neck-yokes F, which also act as equalr in less time.
I am aware that it is not-new to adapt a cultivator for use with a team of three horses, nor for the simultaneous cultivation of two rows of corn.
Having thus described my invention, I claim i as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent In a cultivator, the combination, with the axle A,'having a depressed middle portion and elevated side portions, and the draft-bars D, attached to said elevatedportions of the axle, of the draft-equalizer consisting of the whiffletrees E, arranged upon the draft-bars and connected together at their'inner ends,
the chain effecting this connection being connected by a second chain to the depressed middle portion of the axle, and of additional whiffletrees, essentially as shown and described.
WILLIAM J. FLOWERS. Witnesses:
CHARLES P. ROBINSON, R. O. GORDEN.
