Description

June 24, 1958 w. c. c. BURTON, JR
INTERCHANGEABLE ANTI-SLIP SHOE SOLE ATTACHMENT Filed March 5, 1957 ATTORNEYS United States Patent INTERCHANGEABLE ANT I-SLlP SHOE SOLE ATTACHNIENT Application The present invention relates to attachable and detachable anti-slip devices for shoe soles having interchangeable anti-slip surfaces.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an interchangeable anti-slip surface detachably secured to a shoe in underlying relation to the sole so as to decrease the slipping qualities of the sole.
Another object of the invention is to provide an interchangeable anti-slip member having a detachable slide fastener construction for securing the anti-slip material to the remainder of the device.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described above which is inexpensive to manufacture, simple to apply and use, and which will materially increase the safety of the user when walking on slippery surfaces.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent'in the following specification when considered in the light of the attached drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the invention.
Figure 3 is a transverse cross-section taken along the line 3-3 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary bottom plan view illustrating the anti-slip surface.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several figures, the reference numeral indicates generally an interchangeable anti-slip shoe sole attachment constructed in "accordance with the invention.
The attachment 10 comprises an elastic band 11 which is folded on itself, as indicated in Figure 3, and sewed together by stitching 12 with the tape 13 on one side of a slide fastener 14 secured therebetween.
A panel 15 having the same general shape and size as a shoe sole is secured by any suitable means, such as stitching 16, to the tape slider 18 is arranged on the slide fastener 14 so as to separate the tapes 13 and 17 to detach the panel 15 from the band 11.
The panel 15 comprises an inner portion 19 formed of fabric or other suitable material, a central fabric back 20, and an abrasive coating 21 secured to the fabric back 20 by suitable adhesive means.
In the use and operation of the invention, the elastic band 11 is engaged over the sides of the shoe with the panel 15 in position beneath the shoe sole so that the abrasive surface 21 will be positioned for engagement with the walking surface. When the abrasive surface 21 becomes exhausted, it can be replaced by separating the slide fastener 14 with the slider 18 and applying a new panel 15 by means of a half slide fastener thereon.
It should be obvious that the elastic band 11 makes the application and removal of the attachment 10 from the shoe exceedingly easy so that on reaching areas such as hardwood floors which would be scratched by the abrasive surface 21, the attachment 10 can be quickly removed from the shoe.
Having thus described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it should be understood that numerous structural modifications and adaptations may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
An interchangeable, anti-slip shoe sole attachment comprising an endless elasticjband folded on itself, a flexible fabric material panel having the configuration of a shoe sole, an abrasive coating on the bottom of said panel, an elongated separable slide fastener, and a slider, one side of said slide fastener being fixedly secured to the upper portion of said panel adjacent the marginal edges thereof, the other side of said slide fastener being secured by stitches between the folded sides of said elastic band whereby said panel is detachably secured to said band by said fastener so that the panel may be replaced when it has worn out.
