Claims priority, application Italy November 20, 19 54 1 Claim. (Cl. 107-14) This invention relates to dies for extruding presses, and more particularly to means for positioning dies in the heads of such presses.
It is an object of the invention to provide an improved mechanism whereby a die can be readily assembled and disassembled in a press.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved extruding mechanism wherein all parts are readily accessible.
The invention in one preferred form is characterized in that in a head of a press a fixed abutment is provided which is capable of holding a die by contact with only a part of the perimeter of the die. Cooperating with the fixed abutment but outside of the plane thereof is provided a movable abutment for maintaining the die in position against the fixed abutment and which is capable of impeding motion of the die with respect to the fixed abutment.
Advantageously, the structure offers the possibility of air cooling the die since, as will be seen, a large part of the surface of the die is exposed. Furthermore, by reason of the convenient accessibility of the die, the application of water cooling mechanisms is quite practical.
For a clearer understanding of the invention reference will be hereinafter made to one embodiment thereof shown, by way of example only and without implying any limitation, in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of the head of a press fitted with the locking device of the invention and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along line BB of Fig. 1.
The locking device essentially consists of an abutment 4, integral with, or alfixed to the head 5 of the press and extending along only a part of the lower surface of the die 1, which latter is prevented from pivoting about the abutment 4 by a movable abutment 6 in a plate, or gib 2, slidable in a slot 7 of the head 5 and displaceable and adjustable by means of a nut 8. 3 is a filter mounted before the die 1 and 9 is, a gasket which prevents the dough from leaking between the rims of the filters and of the head.
To dismantle the die all that need be done is to lift plate 2 disengaging the movable abutment 6 and pivoting the die about abutment 4.
It is apparent that the plate, which embodies the movable abutment, may be either vertically or horizontally slidable, or also movable about a fixed pin.
What we claim is:
A locking device, for a die used in an extruding press, comprising a die holding member including a body portion defining a passage for the material to be extruded and a further portion coupled to and extending from said body portion at one side of the passage, an abutment on the free extremity of said further portion extending transverse to said passage, the die seating against said further portion and abutment, and a block controllably slidable in said body portion in parallel with said further portion and at the other side of said passage for locking said die in seated position.
