Description
May 27, 1958 E. M. JERDEE FISHHOOK HOLDER Filed July 15. 1957 IN VEN TOR. EUGENE M. TERDEE fi A-XMM United States Patent FISHHOOK HOLDER Eugene M. Jerdee, New Brighton, Minn.
Application July 15, 1957, Serial No. 671,874
5 Claims. (Cl. 43-575) This invention relates to holders for fishhooks and more particularly to a holder for fishhooks which are provided with a smell.
All of the prior fishhook holders provided an individual spring control means for each hook and its snell for holding it in a taut condition on the holder.
My holder for fishhooks with snells comprises a fiat, rectangular shaped panel of plywood provided with a plurality of anchoring means on one side thereof for anchoring the snells. One end of the panel is provided with an opening in which is mounted a spring controlled aperture bar for receiving the fishhooks.
It is the primary object of this invention to provide in a snelled fishhook holder, a single spring controlled bar for receiving a plurality of fishhooks.
It is another object of this invention to provide in a snelled fishhook holder of means which permits easy and quick mounting or demounting of snelled fishhooks on the holder.
A still further object of this invention is to provide in a holder for snelled fishhooks means which will permit the holding of hooks having different snell lengths, yet will be of a size that it can be either conveniently carried in a coat pocket, or in a tackle box.
A further object of the invention is to provide in a hook holder of the kind stated which is simple and durable in construction, exceedingly efiicient and convenient in use and which may be cheaply manufactured.
Other objects and features of importance will become apparent in the following description of the illustrated form of the invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the snelled fishhook holder, disclosing one snelled fishhook mounted thereon.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the snelled fishhook holder comprises a flat faced panel 12 of plywood, which is rectangular.
One end 24 of the panel 12 is provided with an upstanding arm 16 and 18 at its opposite sides providing a rectangular opening 20 in the panel 12.
A pair of spaced nails or pins 22 are fastened in the upper edge 24 of panel 12 at the bottom of the rectangular opening 20. A bar 26 is provided with spaced holes for the nails 22 and the bar 26 is slidably mounted on the nails 22. A coiled spring 28 is mounted around each of the nails 22 and they are spaced between the inside of the bar 26 and the edge 24 of the panel 12. The coiled springs 28 normally bias or hold the bar 26 adjacent the upper end of the opening 20. The bar 26 is provided with a plurality of equally spaced apertures 30 for receiving a hook such as the fishhook 32.
A plurality of lateral and longitudinally spaced apart eyelets or anchoring means 34 are fastened to the upper or top face 11 of the panel 12. The loop of the smell is shown secured to one of the anchoring means 34.
2,836,005 Patented May 27, 1958 The spring controlled bar 26 normally holds the Snell taut on the holder 10. When it is desired to release a fishhook which is carried on the holder 10, the spring controlled bar 26 is depressed toward the edge 24 of the panel 12 and the bar 26 held in such depressed position while the desired snelled hook is released from the bar 26 and its anchoring means 34. When the bar 26 is released it will return to its normal holding position in the opening 20, see Figure 1 of the drawing so that the other snelled hooks are held taut on the holder 10. The bar 26 operates completely within the opening 20 of the panel 12. The bar 26 is provided with a ninety degree flange 27 on its lower or bottom edge which serves to protect the fingers of a fisherman from the sharp ends of the snelled hooks carried by the holder 10.
It is to be understood that a plurality of snelled hooks are to be carried by the holder 10 and the spaced apart eyelets 34 provided anchoring means so that difierent lengths of snelled hooks can be carried on the holder 10.
The bar 26 carries all of the snelled fish hooks and by depressing the spring controlled bar, any number of snelled hooks can be either quickly mounted or demounted on the holder 10. The holder 10 is equipped to carry eleven snelled fishhooks.
The holder 10 may be manufactured and sold either with or without the snelled fishhooks. Also the holder may be made in dilferent colors.
The holder 10 is of a size and shape to be either carried in the pocket of a coat or in a tackle box.
In accordance with the patent statutes I have shown my invention embodied in concrete form and as constructed in a specified manner, but it should be understood that I do not limit myself thereto, since various modifications thereof will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the annexed claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a holder for a plurality of snelled fishhooks, a rectangular flat faced panel, an arm extending upwardly from each side of the panel at one end providing a rectangular opening in the panel, a pair of spaced apart nails fastened to the upper edge of the panel at the bottom of the opening, a bar slidably mounted on the pair of nails, coiled springs mounted on the said pair of nails for biasing the bar upwardly in the opening, the bar having a portion projecting beyond one face of the panel, the bar provided with a plurality of spaced apertures, and a plurality of spaced apart anchoring means on said one face of the panel.
2. A device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the anchoring means on the said one face of the board are spaced laterally and longitudinally apart.
3. A device as set forth in claim 1 wherein the bar is provided with a flange on its bottom portion extending inwardly of the opening in the panel.
4. In a holder for a plurality of snelled fishhooks, a flat faced panel, an arm extending upwardly from each side of the panel at one end providing an opening in the panel, a pair of spaced apart nails fastened to the upper edge of the panel at the bottom of the opening, a bar slidably mounted on the pair of nails, coiled springs mounted on the said pair of nails for biasing the bar upwardly in the opening, the bar having a portion projecting beyond one face of the panel, the bar provided with a plurality of spaced apart apertures and a plurality of spaced apart anchoring means on said one face of the panel.
5. In a holder for a plurality of snelled fishhooks, a fiat faced panel, an arm extending upwardly from each Vchoring means on one face of the panel.
