CALENDAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 283,215, dated August 14, 1883.
Application filed AprilQl, 1883. lNoniodel.)
of West Lebanon, in the county of Grafton and Stateof New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Calendars,
of which thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description. i n
My invention consists in a monthly calendar composed of a'rotating disk having a pecu-liar arrangement of figures, which is combined with a card or frame having an opening for exposing a portion of the disk, as hereinafter described and claimed. i
Reference is t'obe had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is afront elevation of my improved calendar. Fig. 2is a face view of the disk detached. a
The fraineA is made of pasteboard or other suitable material, and is formed with a seg mental opening, (6, in a portion of its surface. B is a circular disk, attached to the back oi the frame A by arivet, b, so that aportion or segment of the diskis visible through the opening a of the frame. The numbers representing the days of the month are upon the outer portion of the disk B in radial columns. As
shown, there are three sets of these numbers, each setoceupying one-third of the disk, and each set of numbers, from 1 upward, is arranged in several columns andion spiral lines, so that abovethe number 7 of any one set there is a space or break, opposite which the number 1 of the next set comes, thereby avoiding confusion. to 30, inclusive,-and the other two, 1 to 31, so
that they are adapted for the months containing different numbers of days.
The names of the months are placed at the places, so that each month will be exposed through a slot, d, formed in the frame A.
By this construction and arrangement, when the disk is turned to show the name of any month at the opening (I, the figures exposed at the opening a are correct for that month. I have shown but three sets of figures; but there may be four, the fourth one being for an arrangement of figures suitable for February,
oHARLns H. DANA, JR, lVitnesses:

One set consists of the numbers 1 tops of the columns of figures in their proper
