1 Claim. (Cl. 413-467) This invention relates to calendars and more particularly to a calendar which is so designed to enable individuals to note various events.
An object of the present invention is to provide a calendar which has means to remind the owner of important dates, events and the like, the means being inexpensive to produce and, therefore, practical.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a calendar which has tabs arranged by score lines, perforations or the equivalent on or near the date, the tabs being adapted to be torn along the score lines in order to provide a visual indicator to remind the calendar owner of the impending date.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a reminder calendar with a coded type of tab, the code being either color or shape of the tab or both.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a calendar with parts broken away to illustrate various sheets making up the calendar, the sheets exemplifying various embodiments of the invention; and
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Figure l.
In the accompanying drawings there is a calendar which is constructed in accordance with the invention. This calendar is made of a backing 12 and pages thereon. It is preferred, although not essential, that the lower part of each page be reserved for notes, as at 14, and that the upper part of each page designate the month and year. For the month of June there is a page 16 rolled in rectangular blocks. The left half of the page has the first two blocks 1S and 20 arranged to show that each block may be quartered, forming tabs 18a, 18b, 18C and 18d, respectively. This is accomplished by having intersecting perforations forming tear lines 22 and 24 and by having three tear lines 25, 26 and 28 similarly formed along the upper and two side edges. This provides a construction whereby four individual and separate tabs may be torn from the block 18, for example, see the tab b of block 20. In using the calendar, the tab 20b or any other of the tabs may be used for making notes on one or both sides thereof. The projection from the general plane of the sheet 16 when one of the tabs is struck therefrom provides a visual reminder of the message applied onto one of the tabs.
As another embodiment of the invention, attention is invited to the blocks 30, 31, 32, 33 and 34 along the horizontal row of dates in the month of I une, sheet 16. A tab, for example, tab 31a, is formed by having three tear f nited States Patent O 2,831,278 Patented Apr. 22, 1958 ICC lines, formed by scoring or perforating, along the two sides and upper edge of the date block 31. These lines 35, 36 and37 are adapted to be torn, for example, see the tab 33a in block 33. The tab 33a presents one or both sides for messages, it being noted that tabs are formed in the same sheet as the calendar, requiring no additional sheets whatsoever. Moreover, it is noted that although the tabs, as at 33a, tear downwardly, they may be torn sideways or torn up, depending on the prerogative of the user. With regard to tearing upwardly, attention is invited to the sheet 40 which lays below the sheet 16. Each of the date blocks, for example, date blocks 41 and 42, is formed with tear lines enabling the tab to be torn upwardly. In date block 41 there are lines 43, 44 and 45, while date block 42 has similar lines in it. Tab 42a has been torn upwardly, showing a tab in the used position.
Calendar sheet 50 shows another embodiment of the invention where the date blocks, for example, blocks 51, 52 and 53, have the tear lines arranged in a triangular fashion. In date block 51 there are tear lines S4, 55 and 56, while the block 53 has similar lines deining tab 53a, which has been torn to the operative position. ln sheet 58, which is immediately below sheet 50, the tear lines for the tabs, for example, tab 59a, are the same as the tear lines for the tabs 51, 52 and 53, but they are inverted.
The sheet 60, which demonstrates a further embodiment of the invention, has a combination whereby the rectangular tab or the triangular tab, depending on the prerogative of the user, is available. To achieve this, there are two side tear lines 61 and 63 in date block 64, while the upper tear line 62 may be in the upper position or in the lower position. In the area defined by the tear lines 61, 62 and 63 there are a pair of angular tear lines 65 and 66. The result is that there may be a triangular tab, such as 69a, torn from the date block or a rectangular tab, such as 70a. This means that the user has the option of either shape and may reserve one shape to represent joyous events, for example, birthdays, and the other shape for business matters, for example, dates on which bills come due.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A reminder date calendar comprising a sheet having printed thereon the dates of a month, each date area having at its edge portion weakened portions so that a tab may be partially removed from the sheet to provide la reminder for the date, and said area formed by the weakened edge portions having further weakened portions dividing said area into areas so that various shaped tabs may be formed on that particular date area.
