JOHN H. OSBORNE, OF HAYTS CORNERS, NEW YORK.
NECK- YO KE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 282,918, dated August 7, 1883. Application filed April 14,1883. ModoL) 1'0 all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. OSBORNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hayts Corners, in the county of Seneca and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Clips, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My inventi on relates to neck-yok es for double teams in driving, and has for its object a mode of securing the clip of the yoke to the yoke stick itself and to the pole-leather, as will be hereinafter more particularly described.
I11 the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a plan View, and Fig. 2 a cross-section.
A represents the clip which surrounds the yoke-stick B. This clip is made of malleable iron, and is provided with two ears, 0 O, which embrace the neck-yoke leather D. These ears are provided with bolt-holes, and have formed on their inner faces each a lateral groove, which is semicircular'in shape, as seen at 00 :0. A portion of the leather D, which is held'be tween the cars, is provided with a semicircular rib, which is placed and secured beneath one of the layers of said leather. These ribs are made to correspond with the shape of the grooves and lie in them when the two ends of the clip are bolted together.
The clip, after being annealed, being capable of spreading some, is passed over the yokestick B. The leather is then inserted between The leather can only be taken from the clip I and the clip from the yoke-stick by removing the bolts. The leather is composed, as usual, of a number of layers of leather, and is provided with the usual opening for receiving the pole.
It will readily be seen that by this arrangement the leather and yoke are readily and firmly attached to the yoke-stick, and may speedily be detached therefrom when desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The clip A, having grooves 00 00 formed in each inner face of its ears, in combination with the yoke-stick and the leather D, beneath the folds of which are secured ribs which lie in the grooves, the several parts being bolted together, substantially as specified.
In testimony. whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. OSBORNE.
