PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL rJEIxEE, 1 ou `ronr oHEsrEE, `NEW YORK.
BOLT AND NUT PACKAGE.
sPEcIFIcATIoN forming part of Letters Patent Np.` 282,370, dated July 31, 1883.
Application filed .rune 5,1883. (Model.)
A Be it known that I, SAMUEL THoMAsBIKER, of PortGhester, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bolt andfNut Packages, of whichytheifollowing4 isa full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part of this "specification," in which similar letters ofreference` indicate correspondingparts in boththeflgures. n
Figure l is a perspective View of one of my improved packages shown with the cover removed and a part broken away. Fig.4 `2 is a sectional elevation Aof the same.
The object of this invention is to promote convenience in the use of bolts and nuts and lessen the cost of said bolts and nuts to both manufacturers and consumers.
rlhe invention consists in a bolt and nut package formed of a box to-receive the bolts, a tray to receive the nuts, tted into the said box, and a cover inclosing and protecting both box and tray, as will be hereinafter fully described.` n I d The package is formed of the main box A, the cover B, and the tray C. The, tray G is so formed as to t into the upper part of the v box A, and is made of such a size as to contain the nuts of as many bolts as areto be put up in onepackage. The box A is made of such a size as to contain the desired number of bolts, and a tray, C, containing a corresponding number of nuts. The cover B ts upon the top of the box A, and may bemadefof such a depth` that its sides andends will extend to the bottom of the box A. This construction I prefer, as it greatly increases the strength of the package without materially increasing its bulk.
The upper edges of the sides of the box A have recesses formed in them, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the tray C can be readily lifted out.
By this invention the manufacturer is saved from the expense of putting a nut on each bolt, andthe consumer is saved `from the expense of removing the nut from each bolt before he can use the said` bolt.
Bolts have been sent to the markets with the nuts poured loose into the same package with the bolts; but by this arrangement the Consumer was put to the expense of emptying the package` and sorting out the nuts before `he could use them. With my improved package the Workman can open the package, take out the tray and empty the nuts into one Vpocketof his apron and the bolts into the other pocket, and he is ready for work without having 10st a Ininutes time.
The box -A, cover B, and tray 'C may be made of straw-board or other suitable material.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patente In a bolt. and `nut package, the combination, with the box A and cover B, of the interior tray, C, substantially as herein shown and de scribed, whereby the bolts and nuts can be kept separate while being put up in the same package, asset forth.
