Description
Feb. 11, 1958 ,c. H. SZWARCBERG 2,322,511
IMPLEMENTS FOR cumnc- HAIR Filed Nov. 15, 1956 United States Patent 2,822,611 IMPLEMENTS FOR CUTTING HAIR Chaim Haskel Szwarcberg, Brussels, Belgium Application November 15, 1956, Serial No. 622,329 Claims priority, application Belgium November 19, 1955 1 Claim. (Cl. 30-195) This invention relates to implements intended for use by hairdressers for cutting hair.
An object of the invention is to provide an implement which will not only enable the rapidity with which the hair is cut to be increased, but also the quality of the work to be improved. A further attribute aimed at is to enable thinning-out operations, which generally can only be carried out by hand and with difiiculty, to be performed on the hair.
An implement provided in accordance with this invention is furnished with juxtaposed blades, carried by operating levers and adapted to be moved one relatively to the other by the operations of said levers, these blades having teeth defining between them spaces which are such that the teeth of the blades can be brought into relative positions, as a result of said operation of the levers in which only the bunches of hair located between the approaching teeth of the two blades will be cut, whilst the hairs in the parting gaps behind the teeth of the two blades will remain uncut.
In one embodiment of the invention, the blades are formed by arms inturned from the ends of two levers which are articulated in scissors-fashion, these arms being superimposed in the closed position of the implement.
To enable the invention to be better understood, an embodiment and application thereof will next be described, in reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the assembled implement.
Figure 2 is a detail view showing the action of a set of teeth of particular form provided on arms with which the articulated levers are provided.
Figures 3 and 4 illustrate the method of use of the implement.
As shown by Figure l, the implement illustrated comprises levers 1-2 which are pivotally connected at 3 in scissors-fashion, and provided with finger grips 4.
At their outer ends, these levers are curved inwards 2,822,611 Patented Feb. 11, 1958 towards one another to form arms 5 which are juxtaposed in the closed position of the implement and are each provided with teeth 6 having relatively large spaces or gaps 7 between them.
The form of these spaces of gaps is a particular feature of the implement and is related to the intended use of the implement. Thus, as can be seen more particularly from Figure 2, because of the relatively large gaps between the teeth of the blades constituted by the toothed arms, the teeth of each of the arms may be brought, by moving the levers 12 together, into relative positions 6 (Figure 2) in which only some of the hair covered by the arms, i. e. the bunches of hair between the ap proaching pairs of teeth, one on each arm, are cut, while the hair located in the widening gaps between the adjacent teeth on the two blades remains uncut.
This implement is thus particularly suitable for eliminating an innermass of hair by an operation at the scalp,
particularly at the top of the head. An operation of this sort is illustrated in Figure 3 in which has been diagrammatically shown a hair cutting technique at the scalp (at 8).
It will be readily understood that, under these conditions only certain parts of the hair will be cut and others will be left in the immediate vicinity, this being known as thinning-out in the hairdressing trade and producing a less abrupt cut.
Figure 4 illustrates that the implement can also be used for performing a similar operation at the surface of the hair.
The lips are preferably of the arcuate form illustrated, since this shape gives a varying length in the coifrure.
Another advantage is that the operation may be carried out more rapidly and with less danger then when regular scissors are used.
Moreover no known implement enables the hair to be cut so close to the scalp.
What I claim is:
An implement for cutting hair comprising two levers articulated together in scissors-fashion and pivotal between open and closed positions, blades on the ends of said levers and inturned so as to be superimposed with said levers in closed position, and teeth on said blades, said teeth being spaced and thereby defining spaced regions for the cutting of hair by the manipulation of said levers.
