MANUFACTURING KIT FOR PERFUME AND THE LIKE I Filed Feb. 21, 1956 IN VENTOR ATTORNEY Unite States Patent MANUFACTG KIT FOR PERFUMEv AND THE LIKE Robert G. Breckwoldt, Brooklyn, and Alfred W. Hannemanu, New York, N. Y.
ApplicationFebruary 21, 1956, Serial N 0. 566,859
1 Claim. (Cl. 206-16) This invention relates to the manufacture ofcosmetics and: particularly colognes, perfumes, toilet waters, bath crystals, powders, and the like, and in particular a kit containing raw materials, such as essential oils, aromatics, isolates, solvents, and chemicals necessary to the compoundingof perfumes, colognes, toilet waters, powders and. the like, measuring and mixing devices, filtering: material, a brochure, final product containers, and a case withdividing partitions or cells for retaining containers with ingredients therein in predetermined positions in the case.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a kit with which an individual may manufacture perfume and the like for his personal use.
The manufacture of cosmetics and particularly per.- fume, cologne, toilet water, powder and the like is limited to. companies in possession of certain formulas and, as .an illustration, the ingredients of some of the most. costly perfumes are relatively inexpensive. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a complete manufacturing kit including all components required in the manufacture or compounding of cosmetics with pipettes or syringes, containers, and a plurality of formulas, whereby an individual may produce various types of perfume, cologne, powders, and the like.
The object of this invention, is therefore, to provide means for compounding cosmetics for individual use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a manufacturing kit for cosmetics in which sufiicient elements and directions are included to enable the average layman to compound the most exclusive perfumes, colognes, and other cosmetics.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a kit with which an individual may compound cosmetics in which elements of the kit are readily replaceable.
A further object of the invention is to provide a complete manufacturing kit for cosmetics, such as perfumes, colognes, toilet waters, powders, and the like, in which the ingredients are so prepared that they may be com pounded at room temperatures.
A still further object is to provide a cosmetic kit for use in making cosmetics, such as perfumes, Colognes, toilet waters, bath salts, powders, and the like in which the kit is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in View the invention embodies a case having a base with compartments therein and a cover, a plurality of containers for raw materials, a plurality of product holding containers, devices, such as pipettes or syringes, for dropping materials from the containers for raw materials into the product holding containers, a relatively large container for alcohol or other suitable solvent, and a brochure having formulas for perfumes, colognes, bath crystals, powders, and the like therein.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection held by spring fingers in the cover, and alsoshowing, a:
pipette positioned above a container from which the pipette has been removed.
Figure 2 is a view showing a typical pipette with which drops of materials may be deposited in the containers.
Figure 3 is a view illustrating a typical container which may be made of plastic, glass, or other suitable materiaL.
and in which the device is sealed with a screw cap-pipette assembly or any other such mechanism which enables the raw materials to be dispensed dropwise, or volumetrically.
Figure 4 is a view illustrating a typical container of a similar or different shape and/or a similar or different type such as being made of cork.
Figure 5 is an elevational view of a case or box of a different type in which the elements may be contained in a pasteboard box.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the cosmetic manufacturing kit of this invention includes. a case vhaving a base 10 and. a cover 11, raw materials in containers 12 positioned in cells 13 in the case, a typical pipette 14 for withdrawing materials from thecontainers 12 and.
dropping the materials in product containers 15, also positioned in the cells, a solvent container 16 holding a suitable solvent, such as alcohol, and a brochure 17 "held by spring fingers l8 and 19in the cover 11.
The containers may be bottles 9, with screw caps 20', or with screw cap-pipette assemblies, as shown in Figure 3, wherein the containers may be made of glass, plastic, metal, or other suitable material, or the containers may be made of cork, as shown in Figure 4, in which the containers are provided with openings which are closed with stoppers 22, the containers being indicated by the numeral 21. The inner surfaces of the cork containers 21 may be "lined with a film of a suitable material, such as plastic impervious to the products to be placed therein. The containers may also be of any functional shape, such as a collapsible metal tube, or pliable plastic containers with appropriate measuring or dropwise dispensing devices may be used. The containers shown in Figure 4 may be unmarked, or may themselves be calibrated, or a calibarted device, such as a transparent or translucent calibrated material may be afiixed or used in conjunction with said containers.
The cover of the case may be hinged, as shown in Figure l, or the case may be made of cardboard, such as a cardboard box 23 having a flanged cover 24, as shown in Figure 5.
The pipette includes a glass tubular body 25 having a point 26, an elastic bulb 2'7, and an internally threaded cap or collar 28 adapted to be threaded on the neck of one of the containers.
The case is also provided with filtering material which is positioned in the cover and held by the spring fingers.
The illustration of the case, containers, and pipette, are only suggestive, as the case may be of any suitable shape, size or material, and any suitable number and type of containers may be provided therein.
The brochure includes a plurality of formulas for use in mixing the raw materials of the containers to compound perfumes, colognes, toilet waters, bath crystals, powders, or other cosmetics,
Patented: FebxA, 1958 The following-typical formula for a perfume is suggested as an example:
Alcohol added to make /2 oz.
The above noted components are compounded in a container such as one of the product containers 15, and /2 oz. of perfume is obtained, or any multiple of the above may be compounded resulting in a larger or smaller quantity of finished product.
' The raw materials or components include the essential oils, aromatics, isolates, solvents, and chemicals necessary to the compounding of perfumes, colognes, toilet waters, powders, and other cosmetics. The number and size of the individual containers in the kit will be dependent upon the perfume, cologne, toilet water, powder, or other cosmetic or combination of these to be manufactured by the purchaser of the kit.
The kit will also contain appropriate measuring devices, manipulating devices, and all other devices necessary to the successful manufacture of completed products.
The brochure includes formulas for different kinds of perfume, cologne, toilet Water, bath crystals, powders, and other cosmetics and the like, and also a description of each component.
The complete kit may be supplied with an attractive case or in a pasteboard box.
The kits are placed on the market and sold to individuals and the individuals manufacture perfume and the like for their individual use.
It will be understood that modifications, within the scope of the appended claim, may be made in the kit without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having now described the invention that which is claimed to be new and desired to be procured by Letters Patent, is:
In a perfume manufacturing kit, the combination which comprises a rectangular-shaped case having a base with upwardly extended side and end walls, a cover having a top panel with a continuous flange positioned with one side thereof hinged to one side of the base, spaced spring fingers attached to the inner surface of the cover, a brochure retained in the cover by the spring fingers, a plurality of transverse and longitudinally disposed partitions positioned in the case, some of said partitions being arranged to provide small cells for retaining raw material bottles, other partitions being arranged to provide medium size cells for retaining mixing containers, and other partitions being arranged to provide a large cell for a solvent container, raw material bottles containing basic perfume materials positioned in the small cells, pipettes in and providing closures for the raw material bottles, mixing containers having threaded necks with screw caps thereon positioned in the medium size cells, and a solvent container also having a neck with a closure cap thereon positioned in the large cell whereby raw materials from the bottles in the small cells and solvent from the container in the large cell may be placed in the mixing containers in any desired proportions and thoroughly mixed therein to form perfumes.
