BOX IN IIQVIITATION OF A CIGAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 282,159, dated July 31, I883,
Application filed January 2, 1883. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORSAMUS BUSHNELL, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented an Improved Box in Imitation of a Cigar, of which the following is a specification. l
Boxes have been made of wood in the shape .tation cigar is very small in consequence of the thickness of the wooden sides of the box.
My invention is made with reference to obtaining the largest possible internal space,
and to constructing the imitation cigar very cheaply.
My improved boxes are adapted to holding the pellets used for sweetening the breath, known as cachau, or confections may be placed in such boxes, or any other article to which such boxes are adapted; or the imitation-box cigars may be placed in cigar-boxes or in show-windows, instead of actual cigars, so as to avoid the exposure of the real cigars to the injurious effects of air and light.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an exterior view, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
The box is made of paper or similar material of a color corresponding toleaf tobacco. This paper is partially coated on one side with paste, and it is rolled upon a form corresponding in shape to a cigar. The thicknesses of per.
wood of the proper shape, as seen at a, to form a false top or partition, to lessen the'capacity of the box. At the bottom 0 of the box a small plug is introduced, or, by preference, a piece of paper properly pasted is pushed in to form the bottom, as seen at d. The bottom part, 0, goes into the top part, b, when the box is put together; and, if desired, a label, f, is wrapped around the lower portion of the top 5, of the box, so as to cover the joint between the two parts.
I claim as my invention- The box made in imitation of a cigar, with the bottom part of paper rolled up and pasted, and the upper part of paper rolled up and made as an imitation tip to a cigar, the one part of the box slipping into the other, sub stantially as set forth.
' Signed by me this 29th-day of December, A. D. 1882. l
