'l-to provide easily inge support elements which cooperate with the cross piece and legs of a saw horse to firmly unite the same and yet permit a folding action of the legs so that the saw horse may be compactly folded and stored.
Another object of this invention is to provide an improved hinge support element for saw horses including a main body support plate having on opposite ends thereof upwardly struck arms for straddling and for attachment to a cross piece of a saw horse and having on opposite sides thereof depending leg portions serving to receive between opposite end portions thereof, the legs of a saw horse.
Still another object of this invention is to provide an improved hinge structure in accordance with the preceding object wherein said arms have laterally extending end portions projecting beyond one side of the main body plate and which are adapted to receive a fastening element and pivotally attach the assembly to the cross piece of a saw horse.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing a saw horse constructed in accordance with this invention and illustrating the use of the improved hinge support means therefor.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged end elevational view of the assembly shown in Fig. l and illustrating the manner in which the legs can be inwardly folded; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the improved hinge support element.
Referring at this time more particularly to Fig. 1, the

The saw horse is assembled, as is shown in Fig. 1, with the cross piece supported on the upper portions of the plate 17 of the two support hinge assemblies 15 and 16 and being straddled by the upstanding arms 18 and 19 at opposite ends thereof, with the legs 25 and 26 depending from the undersurface thereof and presenting means straddling intermediate portions of the legs 1114 and pivotally attaching them to the hinge supports and yet providing an extremely rigid assembly when set up in the position shown in Fig. 1.
When it is desired to store the saw horse, the same may be done by folding the legs 11 and 12 inwardly and then pivotally moving the entire hinge support and leg assemblies about the axis of the bolt 24 so that the same are disposed in more or less straddling relationship on opposite sides of the cross piece 10. The opposite end of the saw horse is correspondingly compacted so that the entire unit takes up very little space and may be compactly stored as desired.
I claim:
