Application November 30, 1956, Serial No. 625,360
1 Claim. (Cl. 45-58) This invention relates to a device adapted to aid in taking inventory.
An object of this invention is to provide a portable desk or writing table for holding books, inventory sheets or the like at a convenient position during the process of taking the inventory of material or stock which is disposed in bins, shelves or the like.
Another object of this invention is to provide a desk or writing table construction which can be used for conveniently holding inventory sheets, pads or the like, the device being adjustable for use with bins of various sizes.
A further object of this invention is to provide a portable desk or writing table construction which is collapsible so that it will occupy only a small space when not in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a bottom plan view of a device to aid in taking inventory constructed according to an embodiment of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1 showing the device in operative position.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral designates generally a bin structure having shelves 11 with a front flange 13 to prevent the material in the bin from moving outwardly thereof.
In order to provide means to assist in taking of inventory of material within the bin structure 10, I have provided a plate or board 12 which has longitudinal flanges 14 extending along the lower side thereof and which also has an upper flange or cleat 15. The board 12 has secured to the upper end thereof and on the lower side a pair of downwardly directed hooks 16 having shanks 17 which are secured by fastening means 18 to the lower sides of the flanges or reinforcing members 14. The hooks 16 are engageable over an upper bin flange 13 and in order to support the board 12 at an inclination to the vertical and at a convenient writing position, I have provided a pair of elongated arms 19 which are pivotally mounted on a bolt 20. The bolt 20 extends through the flanges 14 adjacent the rear or lower ends thereof and preferably, the flanges 14 are provided with spaced openings 21 through selected ears of which the bolt 20 is extended in order that the board 12 may be angularly adjacent to the desired and 2,814,154 Patented Nov. 26, 1957 convenient writing angle. A wing nut 22 is threaded on one end of the bolt 20 and provides a means for tightly holding bars 19 with respect to the flanges 14. The arms 19 are provided with a twisted forward portion 23 terminating in a downwardly directed hook-shaped member 24 which is engageable over a lower flange 13 in the bin structure 10. The twisted portions 23 of the two arms 19 are connected together by a connecting bar 25. A ledge generally indicated at 26, is adjustably secured to the lower side of the board 12 adjacent the lower end thereof and comprises a plate 27 having an elongated slot 28 through which the bolt 29 loosely engages and a wing nut 30 is threaded onto the bolt 29. The plate 27 has a pair of right-angularly disposed lugs 31 extending from the lower end thereof and positioned at the lower edge of the plate 12. These lugs 31 hold any papers, tablets or other material from sliding downwardly on the plate or desk forming member 12.
In use of this device the upper hooks 16 are engaged over a flange 13 in the bin structure 10 and the hooks 24 are engageable over a lower flange 13. The bolt 20 is extended through selected holes 21 in the flanges 14 so that the plate 12 will be disposed at a predetermined convenient writing angle. The inventory sheets, tablets or the like are placed on the plate or table 12 so that a correct tabulation may be obtained from the material which is disposed within the various bins of the bin structure 18.
The desk forming means hereinbefore described will provide a convenient means for supporting writing material such as inventory sheets or the like, in order that the tabulation may be quickly obtained as the material within the bins is counted.
What is claimed is:
A portable file support comprising an elongated plate,
' flange members secured to the under side of said plate along the longitudinal edges thereof, a pivot bolt extending between said flange members spaced from one end of said elongated plate, a plate slidably mounted between said flange members and elongated plate in contact therewith directly under said pivot bolt, lugs extending laterally from one end of said slidable plate overlying one end of said elongated plate, said slidable plate having an elongated opening disposed along the longitudinal axis of said slidable plate, a bolt loosely mounted within said elongated opening, a wing nut on said bolt engageable with said slidable plate securing said slidable plate in various positions of adjustment, a pair of hooks extending from one end of said elongated plate, adapted to be hooked over an edge of a flange of a bin with which the support is used, a pair of arms having hooks at their free ends pivotally connected to said flange member adjacent to said slidable plate and the hooks of said arms adapted to hook over a flange of a supporting cabinet supporting the lower end of said file support in spaced relation with the cabinet with which the device is used.
