Description
G. PIACENZA Nov. 26, 1957 SHIRT OR LIKE INCORPORATING MEANS ACTING AS A NECK-TIE Filed March 12. 1956 United tates Patent ()fiice Patented Nov. 26, 1957 SHIRT OR THE LHE INCORPORATING MEANS ACTING AS A NECK-TIE Giorgio Piacenza, Turin, Italy, assignor to Trasformazioni Tessili S. r. l., Turin, Italy Application March 12, 1956, Serial No. 570,837 Claims priority, application Italy January 7, 1956 1 Claim. (Cl. 2116) This invention relates to a shirt or the like incorporating means acting as a neck-tie and serving for adjustment of the collar opening width.
My improved shirt is provided with a pair of tapes of flexible material permanently secured to the collar inside, for instance by means of rows of stitches, said tapes extending from the collar substantially in alignment with the collar strip and being provided with means for interconnection in a position in which they intersect on the shirt front panel.
Said tapes advantageously replace the neck-tie, inasmuch as they are quicker to position and avoid the steps of fitting the neck-tie into the collar and tieing necessitated by conventional neckties.
Moreover, said tapes efiiciently retain the collar at variously opening widths thereof, constantly affording a correct appearance of the wearer, as distinct from conventional neckties when the shirt is worn with part open collar and loosened necktie.
Further characteristic features and advantages of this invention will be understood from the following description referring to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a shirt according to this invention, wherein one collar tip is inwardly bent, the tapes being shown in their disconnected position,
Figure 2 shows a modified shirt, the tapes being interconnected,
Figure 3 shows a further modified embodiment.
The shirts shown by way of example are of sports type, the front panel being of one piece. It is understood that my improved device can be used in connection with conventional shirts as well, having a two-piece front panel.
In the example shown in Figure 1, a shirt 1 has a collar 2 from which two tapes 3a, 3b of flexible material extend substantially in alignment with the collar strip, said tapes having buttonholes 5 for interconnection a mutually intersecting condition on the shirt front, for instance by means of a button (not shown) of the type employed for fastening shirt cuffs.
The two tapes 3a, 3b are the free end portions of a tape 3 sewn along the scams 4 within the collar.
In the modification shown in Figure 2 the tape 3 replaces the conventional shirt collar strip. Said tape is sewn by a seam 4a to the collar 2 and by a seam 4b to the shoulder portion of the shirt.
The tape 4 may be made of knitted fabric and form a trimming edge when the collar is turned inside the shirt.
The tapes 3a, 3b are each provided with one buttonhole 5; 6 denotes the button for interconnecting the tapes in crosswise arrangement. Said button conveniently comprises a pair of buttons or the like connected by a stem portion, similarly to the buttons used with shirt cuffs.
In the modification shown in Figure 3 the two tapes 3a, 3b are independently sewn at to the inside of the two collar tips. The collar carries a pair of buttons 7 through which the tapes can be fully secured to the collar inside (as shown in the right-hand portion of Figure 3) when it is desired to eliminate said tapes from the shirt front. The front panel 1 of the shirt is moreover provided with a pair of buttons 8 engaging the buttonholes 5 in the two tapes in the closed position of the collar. In this embodiment a separate button such as the button 6 in Figure 2 is used only when the shirt is to be worn with part open collar.
What I claim is:
In combination with a shirt having a neckline edge, a collar having a neckband, a tape of knitted fabric sewn at its lower edge to said neckline edge of the shirt circumferentially thereof and at its upper edge circumferentially to the lower edge of the collar neckband, said tape being formed with two opposite free end portions, each projecting beyond the collar fore edge, said free edge being provided with button holes for connecting them by means of buttons and retaining them in their mutually intersecting position on the shirt breast covering.
