NOV. 5, F. 5; DE MUN ELECTRIC LIGHT SCCKET CHAIN PULL DEVICE Filed 001;. 3. 1955 1NVENTOR.' FREDRICK 5. DE Mun ELECTRIC LIGHT SOCKET CHAIN PULL DEVICE Fredrick S. De Mun, Long Island City, N. Y.
Application October 3, 1955, Serial No. 538,179
2 Claims. (Cl. 250-73) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in electric light fixturesand the like.
More particularly, the present invention proposes the construction of an improved electric light socket chain pull device which can easily and quickly be mounted on any electric light socket chain and which will not be dislodged or inadvertently removed from the chain during its operation as a pull chain device.
As a further object, the present invention proposes forming the pull chain device with a hook member which will permit it to be secured to a socket pull chain only when the chain is passed through the gate of the hook member in a certain manner but which will permit the device slidably to be mounted on the pull chain.
Another object of the present invention proposes constructing the device with a body having a lower portion of greater width than the upper portion and having nited States Patent Q has a body 15 made of plastic, wood, metal or other suitable material.
Still another object of the invention proposes forming the device with one fiat back face adapted to rest flush against a fiat wall or other vertical flat surface.
Another object of the invention proposes constructing the device with a chamber in the lower portion of the body and slidably mounting the decorative members for concealment in the body in lowered position and for disposal on each side of the upper portion in raised position.
A further object of the invention proposes forming the decorative members as flowers and made of or coated with a luminous material.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an electric light socket chain and an electric light socket pull chain device constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary front view of the pull chain device and pull chain.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side view of the pull chain device and pull chain showing the device being mounted on the chain.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but illustrating a modification of the present invention.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary view of the structure shown in Fig. 5 with the decorative members in lowered position.
Fig. 7 is a view similar to Figs. 1 and 5 but illustrating another modification of the present invention.
The pull chain device, in accordance with the first form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive,
side view of the pull chain device shown in of the chain 23.
The modification of the invention illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6 is characterized by the provision of a body 30 having an upper portion 31 and a lower hand grip portion 32. A hook member 33 is secured to the upper portion 31 and is formed the same as hook member 20 described above. Lower portion 32 of body 30 has a chamber 34 and a pair of decorative members 35 and 36 are slidably and frictionally mounted in the chamber for disposal in raised position alongside the upper portion 31 of the body and for concealment in lowered position (see Fig. 6) in the lower portion of the body. The lower portion also has a slide member slot opening 37 in its front face 38 and a slide member 39 is connected with the decorative members 35 and 36 and slidably mounted in the opening 37 to raise and lower members 35 and 36. The members 35 and 36 may be luminous and may be raised for decorative purposes or for finding the device in the dark or lowered for better hand grip to operate the socket chain to which the device is attached.
The modification of the invention illustrated in Fig. 7 is characterized by the provision of a body 40 in the form of a dog with an upper portion 41 and a lower hand grip portion 42. A hook member 43 is secured to the upper portion 41 removably to connect the device to a socket pull chain.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent 1. An electric light socket chain pull device comprising a body having an upper portion and a hand grip Patented Nov. 5, 1957' lower portion disposed beneath the upper portion and in axial alignment therewith, and a hook member having a shank secured to the upper portion of the body, said hook member also having a clasp ,gate adapted removably to receive and pass a socket chain and a socket chain end member abutting arcuate portion adapted slidably to fit on a socket chain, said upper portion of the body being narrower in width than the lower portion and said body having one flat face to rest flush against a wall, said lower portion of the body having a chamber disposed therein, and a pair of decorative members slidably and frictionally mounted in the chamber for disposal in raised position alongside the upper portion of the body and for concealment in lowered position in the lower portion of the body, said lower portion of the body having a slide member slot opening connected with the chamber and a slide member connected with the decorative members and slidably mounted in the slide member slot opening of the lower portion of the body to raise and lower the decorative members.
2. An electric light socket chain pull device comprising a body having an upper portion and a hand grip lower portion disposed beneath the upper portion and in axial alignment therewith, and a hook member having a shank formed with a bent pointed end which is anchored in the upper portion of the body, said hook member also having a clasp gate adapted removably to receive and pass a socket chain and a socket chain end member abutting arcuate portion adapted slidably to fit on a socket chain, said upper portion of the body being narrower in width than the lower portion and said body having one fiat face to rest flush against a wall, said lower portion hav' ing a chamber disposed therein and a pair of decorative members slidably and frictionally mounted in the chamber for disposal in raised position alongside the upper portion of the body and for concealment in lowered position in the lower portion of the body said lower portion of the body having a slide member slot opening connected with the chamber and a slide member connected with the decorative members and slidably mounted in the slide member slot opening of the lower portion of the body to raise and lower the decorative members, said decorative members being luminous.
