5 Claims. (Cl. 273-155) This invention relates generally to toys and is more particularly concerned with a novel game or puzzle usable by various age groups for educating the Ysame as well as keeping them preoccupied and amused.
A primary object f invention is to provide a novel toy identified as a game or puzzle incorporating a support frame, side portions of which providing support shafts, said shafts or Side portions of the frame having freely rotatable thereon a plurality of game elements including alignable side edge portions, said game elements incorporating o n the outer surface thereof fragmentary portions of a preconceived design, verse or the like wherein proper orientation of the game elements presents a composite preconceived design.
A further v,object of invention in conformance with that set forth is to provide a novel toy of the character involved which is readily and economically manufactured, easily used, and highly amusing, practical and acceptable for the purpose intended.
These together with other objects and advantages which will subsequently become apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a top plan view of one embodiment of the novel game or puzzle;
Figure 2 is an end elevational view of Figure l;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View taken substantially on line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a plan view, on a reduced scale, looking at the side opposite that shown in Figure 1 Figure 5 is a top plan view of another embodiment of the novel game or puzzle;
Figure 6 is a side elevational View of the game or puzzle shown in Figure 5; and
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken substantially on line 7-7 of Figure 6.
Referring to the drawings in detail, especially Figures 1 through 4, the novel game or puzzle is indicated generally at 10, including a support frame 12, rectangularly conformed in the exemplary embodiment, incorporating sides 14, 16, 18 and 20, each of which providing a support shaft which have freely journaled thereon rotatable game elements 22, 24, 26 and 28, respectively. The game elements 22 through 28 are rectangularly conformed and have extending diagonally through opposite corners thereof within the confines of the opposite sides a bore portion 30 through which one of the side portions or support shafts extend.
As indicated by the arcuate direction arrows in Figure 3, the game elements may be rotated about the support shafts in the manner indicated. The opposite sidesof the game elements 22 through 28 are indicated as being planar; however, they may have a raised design thereon (not shown) for the purpose of forming a three dimensional fgure, or picture if desired.
The side edge portions 32 and 34 of the adjacent game elements 22 and 24 are alignable. Likewise, a side edge portion 36 and 38 of the game elements 24 and 26 may be aligned with each other. Additionally, the side edge portions 40 and 42 of the respective game elements 26 and 28 may be aligned, as may the side edge portions 44 and 46 of the respective game elements 28 and 22. Thus it may be generally stated that the adjacent side edge portions of the game elements of adjacent game elements may be disposed in alignment with each other.
Each of the game elements includes on the outer surface thereof a fragmentary portion indicated generally at 48 of a preconceived composite design, a preconceived geometric colored design as seen in Figures 1 and 4, for example, or said design may take the -configuration of a picture, verse or the like. lf desired, as seen in Figure 4, the side opposite that shown in Figure 1 may also include thereon a fragmentary portion 50 of another preconceived design.
The use of the novel game or puzzle is believed readily apparent, the purpose of the game being to align fragmentary portions of the composite design wherein when they vare properly oriented the user of the toy will have completed a composite picture, geometric design, verse or the like. f
Referring to Figures 5 through 7, indicated generally at 60 is another embodiment of the novel game or puzzle incorporating a substantially rectangular support frame indicated generally at 62 one side of which being formed by an integral support base 64 disposable on a suitable support surface. The side portions 66 and 68 of the support Vframe provide support shafts which have freely rotatable thereon elongated rectangular game elements 70. The game elements have extending through an intermediate portion of the width thereof suitable bore portions 72 through which the support shafts extend. interposed in circumposed relationship on opposite sides ofthe game elements 70 where required, are tubular spacer sleeves 74.
The game elements 70 may be rotated as indicated by the arcuate direction arrows in Figure 7, outer surface portions of which having thereon a fragmentary portion 76 of a composite design, see for example Figure 6. Both sides of the same elements may have suitably formed thereon a design.
Thus as seen in Figure 6, adjacent edge portions 78 and 30 of the game elements may be disposed in alignment for forming the composite design previously mentioned.
Thus it will be seen that each of the embodiments of invention disclosed function in substantially the same manner, each of which incorporating a support frame including side portions defining a support shaft upon which a plurality of game elements are freely rotatable by means of a bore extending transversely through side edge portions thereof wherein said game elements may be disposed in alignment for forming a preconceived composite design.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changesl Will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
l. In a toy of the character involved, a rectangular support frame including at least one pair of opposed side edge portions providing opposed support shafts, and a Vplurality of game elements freely rotatable on the side edge portions of said frame, adjacent game elements ini cluding alignable side edge portions, said garne elements including on the outer surface thereof a fragmentary portion of a preconceived design or the like extending into the side edge portions thereof orientation of said game elements presenting the composite preconceived design, said support frame being substantially rectangular, the opposite side edge portions of saidv frame extending transversely through a transverse bore portion extending `through opposite side edges of the game elements.
2. In a toy of the character involved, a rectangular support frame including at least one pair of opposed side edge portions providing opposed support shafts, and a plurality of game elements freely rotatable on the side edge portions of said frame, adjacent game elements including alignable side edge portions, said game elements including on the outer surface thereof a fragmentary por tion of a preconceived design or the like extending into the side edge portions thereof orientation of said game elements presenting the composite preconceived design, said support frame being substantially rectangular, the opposite side edge portions of said frame extending transversely through a bore portion extending through opposite side edges of the game elements, said game elements being substantially rectangular.
3. In a toy as set forth inclaim 2 wherein the bore portions extend through opposite `parallel sides of the game elements, said game elements being pivotally disposed in longitudinally staggered relationship on the opposite parallel side edges of the support frame.
4. In a toy of the character involved, an open rectangular support frame including at least one pair 0f opposed parallel` side edge portions providing spaced parallel support shafts, game elements intermediately journaled in free rotatable relationship on the parallel side edge portions of said frame, said game elements including align* able side edge portions positionable adjacent each other,
said game elements including on one surface thereof a fragmentary portion of a preconceived composite design or the like extending into the alignable edge portions thereof, alignment of the edge portions of the game elements combining the fragmentary portions of the preconceived design to form the composite design.
5. In a toy of the character involved, a support frame including side portions providing a support shaft, and a plurality of game elements freely rotatable on the side portions of said frame, adjacent game elements including alignable side edge portions, said game elements including on the outer surface thereof a fragmentary portion of a preconceived design or the like, wherein proper orientation of said game elements presents a composite preconceived design, said support frame being substantially rectangular, opposite side portions of said frame extending transversely through a bore portion extending throughopposite side edges of the game elements, said game elements being substantially rectangular, the bore portions extending diagonally through opposite corners of said game elements, intersecting edges of said game elements defining a corner positionable adjacent the corner of the other game elements.
