3 Claims. (Cl. 206-4514) This invention relates to a package for mouse traps and the like and the carton and blank from which the package is assembled.

The package is designed for display as well as for shipment and comprises a shallow tray provided at its open forward side with a flap folded inwardly over its bottom and with which the jaws of the trap or traps are engaged. Another flap connected with the top margin of the rear wall portion of the package is folded downwardly and springs over the bases of the trap or traps at the rear of the package, thereby retaining them in position. The package has a triangular form as viewed from its end, but this is an incident to the particular style of trap which is high at its rear and low at its jaw end.

The carton comprises a bottom wall panel 5, rear wall panel 6 and triangular side wall panels 7 and 8. There is no front wall except the very shallow panel 9 to which flap 10 is connected. Flap 11 is connected with the rear wall panel 6 and flaps 12 and 13 are connected to the rear side margins of the side wall panels 7 and 8 respectively.

The traps which constitute the goods for which the carton is designed comprise a pair of jaws 15 and 16 having ear portions 17, 13 pivotally connected at 19 and subject to the bias of spring 20, which is shown only in dotted lines in Fig. 2. Handles are provided at 21 and 22 at the rear ends of the jaws, behind the pintle 19, whereby pressure on the handles will open the jaws against the bias of spring 20.

In the exemplification shown, the base panel is made suificiently large to receive two traps side by side. The height of the front pane-l 9 corresponds roughly with the height of the lower jaw 16.

When the carton is erected, the side panels 7 and 8 are folded upwardly and their flaps 12 and 13 are folded inwardly at the rear of the carton. The rear wall 6 is then erected and its flap 11 folded downwardly over the flaps 12 and 13. Its natural resilience causes it to tend to spring forwardly away from face contact with flaps 12 and 13.

The jaws of the two traps to be packaged in the carton are opened to receive fiap and are allowed to close on flap 10 as shown. Thereupon, the traps and flap are swung downwardly about the hinged connection between the flap 10 and front wall 9 to bring the traps into the carton. In the final movement of the traps, their respective bases 22 will displace flap 11 until the bases 22 pass therebeneath, whereupon flap 11 will spring outwardly, due to its aforesaid resilience, its lower margin being engaged over the bases 22 and limited from further movement by contact with other portions of the traps. This will hold the trap handles 22 securely to the base panel 5 of the display carton. Since the jaws at the front of the trap will be securely engaged with flap 10, it will be apparent that the traps will be securely anchored within the carton to comprise a package for unitary handling. If wrapped, it would ordinarily be enclosed in a transparent jacket, but inasmuch as the packages ordinarily are marketed without wrapping, it is so disclosed herein.

I claim:

1. A package comprising the combination with a display carton having a base, an anchorage flap connected to the base at the front thereof and folded rearwardly over the base in upwardly spaced relation thereto, a rear wall panel connected with the base at the rear thereof and upstanding from the base, generally triangular side wall panels connected with the sides of the base and provided at their rear ends with inwardly folded flaps directed toward each other in substantial face contact with the rear wall panel, and a flap connected with the rear wall panel adjacent its top margin and folded into the carton and downwardly over the inwardly folded flaps and serving, with said rear wall panel, to confine the inwardly folded flaps first mentioned, of an article having means connecting its forward end with the anchorage flap and having its rear end engaged by the lower margin of the flap connected with the rear wall panel.

A package comprising a jaw trap having jaw means at one end, a base portion at the rear thereof and an upwardly extending portion forward of said rear, in combination with a tray having an anchorage flap with which the jaw means of the trap is clampingly engaged in the front of the tray, said tray comprising a rear wall portion having an inwardly turned locking flap in substantially face relation to said rear wall portion and having a margin overlying the base portion of the trap at the rear end thereof and to the rear of said upwardly extending portion.

A package comprising the combination with a plurality of traps disposed side by side and each provided at "its forward end with a pair of jaws and with means biasing said jaws toward mutually closed positions, said traps having corresponding rear end base portions, of a tray having a bottom panel upon which the traps are supported, a front wall panel approximately corresponding in height to the lower jaws of respective traps, a flap extending rearwardly from the front wall panel between the jaws of the traps and engaged thereby, generally triangular side wall panels connected with the bottom panel of the tray and disposed at opposite sides of the pair of traps, a rear wall panel upstanding from the bottom panel behind the traps, flaps connected with the side wall panels and extending inwardly along the face of the rear wall panel, and a flap marginally connected with the top of the rear wall panel and extending downwardly in confining relation to said inwardly'folde'd flaps and disposed above the bases of said traps to preclude undesired upward movement.
