United States Patent ()fiice 2,803,904 Patented Aug. 27, 1957 DECORATIVE ORNAMENT Jack Burnbaum, Newton, Mass., assignor to Bradford Novelty Co., Inc., Cambridge, Mass., a corporation Application August 2, 1955,.Serial No. 525,921
1 Claim. (Cl. 41-10) This invention relates to a decorative ornament, particularly one that may be suspended, as from a Christmas tree branch or other support.
One object of my invention is to provide such an ornament with many star points and which is formed in parts that may readily be assembled together in predetermined positions, and permanently united, thus giving the appearance of an integral Whole.
Another object is to provide parts for forming such an ornament of particularly simple construction that fit together, whereby assembly can be quickly and economically efiected.
The foregoing and other objects, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and arrangement of parts such as is disclosed by the drawing. The nature of the invention is such as to render it susceptible to various changes and modifications, and, therefore, I am not to be limited to the construction disclosed by the drawing nor to the particular parts described in the specification; but am entitled to all such changes therefrom as fall Within the scope of my claim.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is an inner, front elevational view of the right side section of my ornament.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the connector forming part of my ornament.
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of said connector.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5--5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 66 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of my complete ornament.
Fig. 8 is a side elevational view of the complete ornament.
As illustrated, my decorative ornament has a left side section 10, as shown, which embodies a collar portion 12 and a plurality of star points 14 extending from said collar portion diagonally outward, being formed of ribs that taper in width outwardly. It also has a right side section 16 which is the same as said section 10. It embodies a collar portion 18 from which star points 20 extend diagonally outward and are also formed of ribs that taper in width outwardly. In each said section teriorly.
A central portion or connector 22 is hollow and it has a collar portion 24 that is of greater internal diameter than the exterior diameter of either said collar portions 12 and 18. At each of the opposite sides of this collar portion 24 there is an outwardly flaring portion or mouth 26 that forms part of the opening through said collar portion 24, said mouths commencing at opposite outside edges thereof.
Each said collar portion 12 and 18 enters a said mouth 26 that extends into the interior of said connector collar portion 24, being held in position there by cement or other adhesive. Extending outwardly from said connector collar portion 24 are star points 28, one of which has a book 30 formed at an outside end beyond the other star points, whereby my ornament may be suspended thereby. Said star points are formed of ribs which taper in width outwardly.
To assemble the two side sections 10 and 16 with the connector 22, each said section has an adhesive applied to its collar portion and then it is slid through a said mouth 26 into said connector collar portion interior until inner edges of said star points 14 and 20 abut against the outside edges of said connector collar portion. At this point said side collar portions extend inwardly beyond said mouths 26. When the adhesive hardens the three parts are permanently attached to each other, thus forming a single ornament.
The adhesive on said side sections also partly fills said months 26 which helps to make the attachment of the two sections and connector firm.
What I claim is:
A decorative ornament comprising left and right sections each embodying a collar portion and a plurality of star points integral therewith and extending radially outward therefrom, and a connector embodying a collar portion and a plurality of star points integral therewith and extending radially outward therefrom, the internal diameter of opposite side portions of said connector collar portion being greater than the maximum exterior diameter of said side collar portions whereby the latter collar portions extend into the interior of said connector collar portion at opposite sides of the latter to a point where the side collar portion star points abut opposite sides of said connector collar portion, said connector collar portion being farther outward circumferentially than said collar portions of said sections.
