Description

Aug. 13, 1957 H.1KABBASH DISPLAY CONTAINER WI-TH SLIDE Filed May 28, 1956 INVENTOR Ale/71y X48848 ATTORNEYS United States Patent U DISPLAY CONTAINERWITH SLIDE Henry Kabbash, Montreal, Quebec, Canada Application May 28, 1956, Serial No. 587,569 3 Claims. (Cl. 206-4534) The present invention relates to a display container and more particularly to a transparent display container provided with a slide whereby the objects to be displayed may be removed bodily from the container.
The display container, according to the present invention, is more particularly adapted for containing fragile objects such as flowers and the like.
The main object of the present invention is the provision of a display container of the character described which is simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Still another important object of the present invention is the provision of a display container comprising a transparent outer casing having open ends, said ends being adapted to be closed by end closures of a separately formed object supporting tray or slide adapted to he slidably inserted within the outer casing. The end closures of said slide are adapted to positively remain in casing closing position.
The foregoing and other importance objects of the present invention will become more apparent during the following disclosure and by referring to the drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the container in assembled position;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the container showing the slide partly removed from the outer casing;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the slide; and
Figure 4 is a perspective View of the outer casing.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings in which like characters indicate like elements throughout, reference numeral 1 indicates the outer casing and reference numeral 2 indicates the slide adapted to he slidably inserted within the outer casing 1. The two elements of 1 and 2 are separately formed.
The outer casing 1 is made from a blank of transparent substance such as a synthetic plastic of the acetate type. The blank has a rectangular shape and is bent to form an open-ended sleeve-like element, as shown in Figure 4, the long edges 3 of which are glued, stapled or otherwise secured together in overlapping position. The outer casing 1 defines two opposed curved walls 4 and 5 which are joined along their long sides and are integral one with the other.
The slide 2, according to the present invention, consists in a blank of cardboard material or the like opaque material providing a centre portion 6 and end closures 7. The end closures 7 are integral with the centre portion 6 and are dependent therefrom along a curved score line 8. The outer edge 9 of each end closure is convex so that each closure 7 has a substantially ovoidal shape defined by the score line 8 and edge 9.
The edges 10 of the centre portion 6 are curved to define an elongated recess 11 and two end notches 12. The apex of the notches 12 coincides with the score lines 8 and is inwardly spaced from the apices 13 of the end closures 7.
The width of the slide 2 is substantially equal to the width of the wall 5 of the outer casing 1 so that said slide when inserted into the outer casing will be transversely curved and its longitudinal edges 10 will engage the sides of the outer casing. Thus the centre portion 6 of the slide will contact over its entireface the inside face of the wall 5. of the outer casing 1.
"ice
Due to the curved score lines 8 of the end closures 7, the latter, when folded in upright position with respect to the centre portion 6 of the slide, will become bent and assume a reentrant position as clearly shown in Figure 1. In this position the end closures 7 have their outer curved edge 9 in contact with the inner face of the opposite wall 4 of the outer casing and maintain the outer casing 1 in erected position.
The container according to the present invention is used as follows:
To insert the slide 2 within the outer casing 1, one end closure 7 of said slide is bent into a reentrant position, as shown in Figure 2, and this bent closure causes at least part of the centre portion 6 of the slide to assume a transversely curved condition whereby it is ready to be inserted into the outer casing. Then the object to be displayed and housedin the container is positioned on the centre portion 6 of the slide 2 and the slide is pushed 7 within the outer casing to its final position wherein the already erected end closure 7 is adjacent one end of the outer casing 1.
Finally, the other end closure '7 is closed into a reentrant position so that its free edge will engage the inner face of the wall 4 of the outer casing 1. The final position of the slide relative to the outer casing is shown in Figure 1. The friction exerted between the outer casing and the outer edge 9 of each closure 7, and the outside face of the centre portion 6 and the inside face of the wall 5 of the outer casing 1, is sufficient to maintain the slide 2 in its intended position and will prevent accidental disengagement of said slide from within the casing.
To open the container the slide 2 is slid out of the outer casing 1. j i
The end closures 7, when in upright casing closing position, remain in said position due to their reentrant position.
The elongated recesses 11 at the sides of the slide 2 provides a more complete view of the contents of the container without impairing the strength of the slide.
While a preferred embodiment according to the present invention has been illustrated and described, it is understood that various modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A display container comprising an outer casing forming a sleeve-like element open at its two ends and providing two opposed outwardly curved wall portions, and a separately formed object supporting slide adapted to be slidably inserted into the casing, said slide having a width so that said slide may conform when curved, to one wall portion of said sleeve-like outer casing, end closures integral with said slide at the two ends thereof, each end closure depending from said slide along a curved score line and having a convex outer edge, said outer edge and curved score line defining an ovoidal shape for said end closure, said end closures being adapted to be folded along their respective score lines and bent into a reentrant position at substantially right-angles to the slide and in which their outer curved edge engages the inner face of the outer casing.
2. A display container as claimed in claim 1, wherein said outer casing is made of transparent material and said slide is made of opaque material.
3. A display container as in claim 1, wherein said slide has curved longitudinal edges and said end closures project laterally outwardly from said edges.
