Description

(No Model.)
T. OLOMON.
' K HEN SOALE. No. 280,252. I Patented June 26, 1883.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS D. SOLOMON, OF OORSIOANA, TEXAS.
KITCHEN-SCALE.
SPECIFICATION forming part ot Letters Patent No. 280,252, dated June 26, 1883.
V Application filed May 4, 1883.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS D. SOLOMON, of Oorsicana, in the county of Navarro and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Scales and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to weighing-scales; and it consists in the parts which will be herein after described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my device standing against a wall. Fig. 2 is the same in perspective, and Fig. 8 is a detail view.
Like letters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
A is the tray or disk, rigidly mounted on the top of rod B. e
O is a yoke or bifurcated end on rod B.
D is a cross-rod secured in the sides of yoke C, and E is a stirrup pivoted on said rod.
G is the lever or beam, secured by pivot F to the stirrup E.
G is the fulcrum 011 standard H for the lever. The weightL is adapted to slide on lever G, and is adjustable thereon by means of set-screw Z. The lower end of said weight is beveled, and comes in contact with the bent part K of the frame to prevent the lever G from turning too far upward.
I represents a cap over the standard or column, having an opening therein to admit and guide the rod B.
M and N are movable weights on the beam G, one of which may be used to ascertain the pounds, the other the ounces.
0 is the hanging pivoted disk for the reception of additional weights.
My device is particularly intended for a household or kitchen scale. It may be secured to or placed against the wall in a convenient place, whereby the housekeeper will be en (No model.)
abled to ascertain the weight of groceries and depressed, and the weight of the article ascertained by adjusting the pound or ounce weight in the usual manner.
Heretofore the scales with which I am familiar have had the beam pivoted to the lower end of the disk or tray rod. My improvement introduces a pivoted stirrup into the yoke on the tray-rod said stirrup being pivoted to and suspended from the beam. By this means the stirrup and beam can vibrate in the yoke without disturbing the perpendicularity of the tray-rod.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a weighing-scale, a rod having the tray or disk mounted thereon, said rod being provided with a yoke in which is pivoted a stirrup, in combination with a beam pivotally mounted in said stirrup, an adjustable balance-weight and suitable shoulders to catch said balance-weight and thereby prevent an undue upward movement of the beam G, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth. 2. In a weighing-scale, the disk A, rod B, and yoke O, in combination with the stirrup E, beam G, adjustable balanceweight L, and the stop or shoulder K, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimonythat I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS DURHAM SOLOMON.
