UNITED STATES PATENT GEETCE GEORGE w. RICH, or CHICAGO, iLLiNois.
HAMMOCK.'
SPECIFICATION forming' p'art of Letters Patent No. 280,081, dated June 26, 1883.
Application filed January 5, 1883. (No model.)
The object of this invention is to produce aV neat-looking portable frame for suspending` a hammock, such frame to be light and strong, and easily taken apart to fold in a small compass for storage or transportation, and that can be quickly put together again for ready use.
AIherefore my invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and specically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure `1 represents a perspective view of the hammock and frame complete; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section through one ofthe angular socket-connections, and Fig. 3 a similar viewof one of the top-rod sockets.
Corresponding letters in the several figures of the drawings designate like parts.
The main frame is bow-shaped, and is composed of central rod or bar, A, and end rods f or bars, B and B, that are turned of suitable hard wood, and are connected by angular socket-castings C. The rods B and B are formed tapering, and each is inserted with its thicker end into one end of the socket-'casting C, and is made rigid therewith by a screw or rivet, and the central rod, A, is formed thicker in the middle and tapering toward the ends that are detachably inserted into the socketcastings C. This frame is supported at near each end on two wooden legs, d, that are turned tapering, and with their thicker ends are detachably inserted into angular sockets of sleeves D, which are passed over rods B and B', and are secured thereon by pins or screws. Each pair of legs'd spreads apart toward the floor to limitate the inverted letter -V, and are braced to rod B or B', each by an end, that detaehably couples with an eye-screw,
c, secured to a leg, d. Sleeves E are secured upon rods B and B, at nea-r the upper ends of the same, each provided with a hook, e, for connecting the grommets of the hammock F, and upon the upper extremities of rods B and B are secured elbow-sleeves G, each of which detachably holds the end of a rod, H Hf, made in two sections, that are detachably coupled together by a sleeve, g. These rods H H are curved somewhat upwardly, and besides assisting in bracing the entire frame, they will serve to support a mosquito-bar.
' Then the hammock is t0 be transported or is to be stored away, the frame is readily taken apart by rst unhooking the bars a, and by the rods H and Hl from each other and from the sockets of elbow-sleeves G, and when thus apart the frame will becomposed of nine light pieces of limited length, that when placed longitudinally side by side will form a small bundle of little weight that is easy to handle and move about, and, whenever desirable, such frame can be readily'put together again in a few minutes with `the hammock suspended therein for ready use.
Vhat I claim isl.. A hammock-holder consisting oi' a frame that is composed of wooden rods connected by metal sockets or sleeves in a manner to be readily knocked down and put together again, substantially in t-he manner set forth.
2. The bow-shaped frame A B B', supported on legs d, and having hooks c, for suspending the hammock, all substantially as described and shown.
' 3. The bow-shaped frame A B B, connected on top by rod H l-I, supported on legs d, and having hooks c, for suspending the hammock, all substantially as described and shown.
4. A hammock-holder consisting of a bowshaped frame that is composed of detachable sections A B B, andV of detachable legs d, and
provided with hooks e, for suspending the hammock, all substantially as set forth.
5. A hammock-holder consisting of a bowshaped frame composed of sections A B B, of ico ing the hammock, the Whole being constructed and arranged substantially in the Vmanner set forth.
6. As a hammockholder, the frame coniposed of rods A B B', that are connected by socket-castings C, and of sleeves l), secured upon rods B B', that are provided also with sleeves E, having hooks e, all substantially as described and shown.
7. A hammock-holder composed of rods A B B', detachably connected by socket-castings Y C, of rods H H', detachably connected by sleeve g and to rods B B' by elbow-sockets G, and of legs d, inserted into sockets of sleeve D, secured upon rods B B', that have sleeves E,
with hooks e, all substantially as described and shown.
8. In a haniniockholder, the rods B B' of the frame, having sleeves D, with sockets for legs cl, and hook-bars a, that couple with eye- 2o GEORGE W. BlCH. Witnesses:
