United States Patent O 2,800,571 CORNER LIGHT Lawrence' M'; Block, Brady, Nebr. Application August 23, 1955, Serial No. 529,989 zclaims. (ci: 24o-73) This invention relates to a lighting fixture, and more particularly to a lighting fixture for mounting in a corner of a room.
The object of the invention is to provide a lighting fixture which is constructed so that it can be readily mounted in a corner of a room to thereby provide a highly attractive light which will effectively illuminate a wide area.
Another object of the invention is to provide a lighting fixture which is adapted to be arranged or mounted in a corner of a room so that it can be secured to walls of a room which may be arranged at right angles with respect to each other, and whereby the lighting fixture may be provided with a transparent plate which can have fancy designs or indicia thereon.
A further object of the invention is to provide a light for a corner of a room which is extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are used to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure l is a fragmentary perspective view of a room, with parts broken away and in section, and showing the light of the present invention mounted in a corner of the room.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the light of Figure l, with parts broken away and in section.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of `Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken on the line 4-4 0f Figure l.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 3, but showing a modified support member for the light bulbs.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary front elevational view showing a modified corner light.
Figure 7 is a view similar to Figure 6 but showing another modification.
Figure 8 is a view similar to Figures 3 and 5 but showing a modification wherein a lluorescent light is mounted in the device instead of a light bulb.
Referring in detail t0 the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a portion of a room such as a room in a home, and the room 10 may include walls 11 which are arranged at right angles with respect to each other, there being the usual floor 12. The present invention is directed to a lighting fixture 14 which is adapted to be mounted in a corner 13 of the room 10.
The lighting fixture 14 includes a housing 15 which comprises a pair of wall members 16 that are arranged at right angles with respect to each other, Figure 4. The wall members 16 are adapted to be secured to the walls 11 of the room, in any suitable manner, as for example by means of securing elements such as nails or screws 17, Figure 3. Formed integral with the housing or secured thereto, are channel members 18, yand a trans- 2. parent .inclined plate 19` ofr glass,- or plastic,.may be slidably or.releasablymounted'l inthe slot`sformed by the channel members 1.8..` 'Aplate member 20 may beposi.- tionedbelow the plate: 19 and the plate. member 20 may be made-of a. suitable plastic, while the plate 19 may be made of glass. l
There is furtherprovided a support member which includesI or consists of a/horizontally disposed platformll in. Figure 3`..v A-plurality of.sockets ZZVextend upwardly from'. the platformV 21,4v and light bulbs 23 are mounted in.1 the sockets 22.- YThe bulbs 23 may be connectedY to a suitablev source of electrical energy byV means. of wires 24 and "a manuallyY operable switch 245 is provided4 for controlling actuation of the bulbs 2'3.
Referring to Figure 5 of the drawings there is shown a modification wherein the support member for the bulbs 23 consists of an L-shaped bracket 26 which can be secured in place by means of bolt and nut assemblies 27. In Figure 6 there is shown a modified corner light wherein the upper front plate may have a rounded shape as indicated by the numeral 29, and the corner light of Figure 6 is indicated generally by the numeral 28. In Figure 7 there is shown a still further modified design of a corner light which is indicated generally by the numeral 30. In Figure 8 fluorescent tubes 31 are adapted to be mounted in the housing of the light, instead of the bulbs 23. Brackets 32 may be provided for maintaining the fluorescent tube 31 in its proper position.
From the foregoing, it is apparent that there has been provided a corner light which is especially suitable for use in corners of rooms such as the room 10. In use the light 14 can be arranged in a corner such as the corner 13 which may be formed at the junction of the walls 11. The housing 15 of the light may be secured in place by means of the securing elements 17, and the bulbs 23 can be connected to a source of electrical energy by means of the wire 24. Instead of using the platform 21, the L-shaped bracket 26 of Figure 5 can be used. The light may have different shapes as shown in Figures 6 and 7, and if desired a fluorescent tube 31 can be used instead of the light bulbs 23. Due to the right angular relationship of the wall members 16, the housing can be readily mounted in and attached to the corner of the room. The corner light of the present invention may be used in a corner of a room such as a living room, dining room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, or in a store or office. The glass plate 18 may be removed from the channel members 18 when desired. Further, the glass plate may be removed and replaced when it is desired to create different effects with the light. The base or housing of the light is of such a contour that it fits in the corner of the room. The front of the housing may be provided with frosted glass or suitable plastic material. If desired, pictures may be placed adjacent the glass plates so as to enhance the attractiveness of the light. Furthermore, names, slogans, or advertising can also be arranged contiguous to the glass plates. If desired the wire may extend through the bottom of the device as shown in Figure 5, or else the wire 24 may extend out through the back of the device, as shown in Figure 3.
I claim:
