2 Claims. (Cl. 3043) This invention relates to an improved and more particularly to an electric shaver having a detachable shaver head which extends outwardly from the body of the shaver to be used for shaving in diflicult places for ordinary conventional electric shavers.
It is an object of this invention to provide an improved electric shaver of the kind to be more particularly described hereinafter which has a fixed cutting blade and a movable cutting blade, the movable cutting blade being actuated by a motor in the body of the shaver in an oscillating movement.
It is another object of this invention to provide an improved electric shaver of this kind having a head which may be easily detached from the body of the shaver and another head substituted in its place when and as desired.
It is a further object of this invention to provide an improved electric shaver of this kind which is light in weight and readily movable from one place to another as desired by the owner of the shaver.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter described and the novel features thereof defined in the appended claims.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings the numeral 10 designates an improved electric shaver constructed according to an embodiment of my invention.
The electric shaver 10 is provided with an outer shell or body 11 having a detachable shaver head 12 mounted on the upper end thereof. The shell or body 11 is elongated in configuration and the head 12 may be attached to or removed from one end, the upper end, of the shell as the head 12 has a rear plate wall 14 which is secured to a fiat surface on the upper end of the shell by a bolt or screw or screws as clearly shown in the drawings.
The head 12 also has an upper wall 15 spaced from a lower wall 16 to provide fixed cutter blades which are sharp edged in cross section, the rear end of the upper wall 15 being spaced a distance above the rear end of the lower wall 16.
The forward or outer end of the upper wall 15 has a concavity 17 adjacent the outer end thereof and the lower wall 16 has a concavity 18 adjacent the outer end thereof both of the concavities 17 and 18 being spaced longitudinally of the head 12 and in vertical alignment so that a space 19 is provided between the outer ends of both of the walls 15 and 16 at the end of the walls where they come together at the apex of the converging disposition of the walls of the head. By this formation of the fixed blades 20 on the head of the electric shaver, the shaver may be easily applied to all spaces or points on a face to be shaved.
An oscillating cutter head 24 is disposed within the fixed blades 20 and is formed of a cylindrical tube 25 which is journalled in the head 12 to bear against the cavities of the upper and lower Walls. The cutter head 24 is formed with diagonally extending slots 26 which are located on the tube and which will engage the hair by the cutter 24 when using the shaver.
A pair of cam follower plates 31 are fixed to the rear side of the cylindrical hollow tube and will be engaged by a cam 38 positioned between the cam follower plates so that rotation of the cam shaft 36 will cause the cam 38 to oscillate the cam follower plates 31, the cylindrical tube 25, and cutter head 24, to thereby accomplish the cutting of the hair or whiskers.
As the cam 38 is rotated, it is in continuous surface contact with plates 31, giving a smooth flow of power to the cutter head 24, without vibration and noise. The dynamically balanced counterweight 40 further reduces the vibration of moving parts to a bare minimum. This results in more efiicient operation of the cutter head 24.
The cam 38 is in the shape of a truncated irregularly shaped cone wherein the surface of the cone at one point extends upwardly at an angle of 50 and at a diametrically opposite point extends at an angle of 10 from the base. From the extreme or maximum angle of 50 the angle of the cam surface reduces to the minimum angle of 10. At the midpoint between the minimum and maximum points the angle is 30 on diametrically opposite points on cam 38, and at any two diametrically opposite points the total of the two angles is 60.
An electric motor 34 is contained within the shell 11 of the shaver and has a rotatable motor shaft 35 extending outwardly of the motor with the end of the shaft engaged with the cam shaft 36 which will cause the rotation of the cam 38.
A coupling provides for the engagement of the cam shaft 36 with the end of the motor shaft 35, by a transverse slot on the end of the cam shaft 36, receiving a flat element on the end of the motor shaft 35. This structure is designated by the reference numeral 41 in the drawings.
Use and operation In the use and operation of the improved electric shaver, the head 12 is secured to the upper end of the shell 11 by bolts, screws or other suitable fastening means and the walls of the head provide the fixed blades while the cylindrical tube 25 with its diagonal slots 26 provides the moving cutter head of the shaver.
Upon energizing the motor 34 the cutter head 24 oscillates within the concavity of the fixed blades thereby cutting the hair.
When desired the entire head may be removed from the shaver by disengaging the bolts which secure the rear plate Wall 14 and a new head 12 fitted into place.
A counter-weight 40 is secured on the cam shaft 36 opposite from the cam 38 to provide for dynamic balance and smooth operation of the shaver.
While the specific details of one embodiment of this invention have been herein shown and described, the invention is not confined thereto as changes and alternations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as defined in the appended claims.
