NITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
HENRY LOSSE, OF PINOKENVILLE, ILLINOIS.
CYLINDER WASHING-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,960, dated June 26, 1883.
Application filed April 2, 1883.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY LossE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pinckenville, in the county of Perry and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usefull Improvements in Cylinder WashingMachines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to improvements in cylinder washing-machines, and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the same, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which-4 Figure l represents a vertical sectional view of my machine, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the boiler in which the water is placed, consisting of two halves, c c', and provided on each of its side walls, c2,with bearings c3, in which revolve the journals a4 of the cylinder B.
The cylinder in which the clothes are placed to be washed, as at B, consists of a lower portion, b, having the journals c* at, extending from its side walls, b b, and lugs b2 b2, attached on one side to engage th'e spring-catches b3 b3, secured to the upper portion or hinge-seetion, C, ofthe cylinder.
Vithin the cylinder B, and secured to the face of the side walls, are secured V-shaped strips orrubbers c c, that act upon the clothes when the cylinder is revolved.
In the periphery of the cylinder are formed transverse slots or openings c, through which the water from the boiler flows tothe interior (No model.)
in the side walls of the cylinder, and the two ends d are connectedby blades d, that serve vas rubbers for the clothes.
Within the cylinder, and arranged transversely across the inner face of the same, are secured Vshaped rubbing-strips e, that are p laced between the revolving rubbers, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings.
In operating the machine the water is placed in the boiler, and after the clothes are soaped and soaked they are placed within the cylinder and the upper portion or lid, C, locked by its spring-catches b3 b3, and the upper seetion or lid, a', placed on the boiler, thus inboiler in and out of said openings, thus keeping the cylinder supplied with water.
Suitable fastening devices may be employed to engage the j ournals of the cylinder tol keep the same from accidental displacement.
It will be further seen that very little or no labor is required in operating the machine, and when the clothes are taken out of the cylinder, after being washed, will be thoroughly scoured and perfectly clean, and a machine as herein described is simple in operation and cheap to manufacture.
Having described my invention, what VI claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
In a cylinder washing-machine, the combination, with the boiler A, of'the cylinder O, having openings c', of the valves c, revolving rubbers c2, and V-shaped rubber strips c e, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY LOSSE.
