Description

(No Model.)
.S. R. HARRAH.
sAsH PASIJENER.
Patented gag? 83* UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEC STEPHEN R. HARRAH, OF PITTSBURG, KANSAS.
sAVsH-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.`279,749, dated June 19, `1883.
Application filed September 29, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, STEPHEN R. HARRAH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Crawford and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash Holders and Locks; and I do hereby declarev the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in sash holders and locks, and the object is to provide a sash holder and lock simple in its construction, effective in its operation, and very easily applied7 and at the same time is reliable, and can be easily and readily manipulated.
The invention consists in the construction -and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described hereinafter, and more specifically pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon.
'Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the different figures of the drawings, in which- Figure l represents part of a window with the sash down and locked. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the sash open and held in that position. Fig. 3 is' an enlarged side elevation of the holder and lock against one of the stops. Fig. 4 is an end View of the same.
In the drawings, A is a part of a windowframe, and B represents asash therein. 'Io the side of the window-frame are secured a number of stops c by screwsB or nails. More or less of these stops may be employed, so as to hold the sashes at different heights, as desired. I prefer three. The stops a are made concave on their rear side, as shown at b, by which two points are formed, which enter into the wood when they are secured in place by the screws7 and are thus prevented from turning on the screw. To the face of' the sash is secured a small plate, C, by means of screws, and said plate is provided with two projections, c c, which serve asI stops forthe dog D, and limit the sidewise motion thereof, and thereby preventing the point d of said dog from scratching or marring the wood or paint. This is an important feature of my invention, and has been heretofore overlooked in sash holders and locks. The dogs D have a weighted end, e, and a hook, f, which engages with a hook, g, on the latch E when it is desired to raise or lower the sash. `On the latch Eis secured a knob, h, by which the latch is operated anddisengaged from the stops a. When the sash is to be raised, or when it is to be lowered, the hook g of the latch E comes in contact with the hook f of the dog D and liberates it from` the upper side of the dog. Y
Any suitable material may be employed in the construction of' my improved sash holder and lock.
rIhe great advantages of my improved sashholder and lock will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art. It can be readily applied to any window without defacing any part thereof; it is very simple in its construction; it can be easily manipulated by any one;
.it performs the double duty of sash holder and .ing points, and the latch E, provided with hook g, and knob hf, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I hereto afx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
STEPHEN R. HARRAH.
