A principal object of the invention is to provide an adjustable height seat for a child which may be placed on a conventional chair in order to raise the child to convenient table height for eating.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combined adjustable childs seat and swing.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combination adjustable seat and swing; said swing being adapted to have safety bars.

Another object of the invention is to provide a childs swing which may be used in one position to hold the child and in a second position with safety bars for babies.

The present invention generally comprises a horizontal seat member which is connected to and between two vertical members; the vertical members having a series of spaced holes in them. A pair of rod members are insorted in a selected pair of holes in each vertical member, thereby providing an adjustment of height between the seat member and a conventional chair, when the adjustable seat is placed on the chair with the bar members contacting the top of the chair seat. The vertical members hang over the sides of the chair and extend both above and below the horizontal seat member. The projection above prevents the child from sliding olf the seat and the lower projection of the vertical members prevents the adjustable seat from sliding olf the chair. The seat is adapted to be used as a swing both right side up and inverted.

The foregoing objects and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following specification and drawings of which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the embodiment of the invention being used in one of its two positions as a swing.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention mounted on a conventional chair.

Referring now to Figure 1, the invention comprises a horizontal seat member 1 which is connected to and between two

vertical members

2 and 3. The vertical members have a plurality of spaced

holes

4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. A pair of rod members 10 and 11 are inserted through opposite holes in the

vertical members

2 and 3.

The purpose of the rod members 10 and 11 is primarily to provide an adjustment when the invention is placed on a chair as shown in Figure 2, which shows the lowest height adjustment. If it is desired to raise the adjustable seat with respect to the chair, the rod members are removed and placed in the lower holes. The rod members are preferably secured to the vertical side members by conventional means, such as nuts 12 and 113; the ends of the rods being threaded to fit into the nuts. Therefore, the rod members provide rigidity and strength to the structure, since the nuts may be tightened. The rods preferably have a shoulder bearing against the inside of the side members to add strength.

There are also notches 20 and 21 on the lower ends of the vertical members through which ropes may be inserted and the apparatus used as a swing in the inverted atent i atented May 28, 1957 position. 4 and 6 and the rod member 11 may be inserted in the middle holes marked 5 and '7, thereby providing safety gates for very small children. The purpose for this is to have one rod as a high back rest and the other as a center hand grip.

Various other means of connecting the ropes to the apparatus may be used; for instance, by boring holes instead of the notches, and if desired, the corners may be strengthened by attaching metal plate brackets not shown. The apparatus may be constructed from plain wood, plywood, light metal, or plastic. It is preferable that the seat should be kept light so that the apparatus may be conveniently handled by children.

The invention also has considerable use as a general purpose toy and used in a conventional manner as a stool or small childs seat placed on the floor. If it is not desired to use the apparatus as a swing, it may be made without the notches. Alternatively, equivalent conventional means for fastening the swing ropes could be connected.

Figure 2 shows the invention mounted on a chair 20. Note that the vertical side members extend below the chair so that there is little danger of the adjustable seat sliding off the chair. The vertical members also extend sufiiciently above the horizontal member 1 to prevent the child from sliding oil.

Many variations will occur to those who practice the invention; for instance, the upper projections of the side vertical members could be made longer and apertures and a second set of rods inserted as safety gates or the invention can be used inverted from the position shown in Figure 2 and the bar members 10 and 11 used as safety gates for babies and very small children.

I claim:

1. A combination adjustable seat and swing comprising a pair of vertical side members having spaced apertures, a horizontal seat member connected to and between said side members, a pair of rod members inserted through selected ones of said spaced apertures in said side members to make the height of said seat member adjustable with respect to said rod members, and said side members having means to connect ropes to said side members to thereby provide a swing.

2. An adjustable seat comprising a pair of vertical side members having spaced apertures, a horizontal seat member connected to and between said side members, a pair of rod members inserted through selected ones of said spaced apertures in said side members to thereby make the height of said seat member adjustable with respect to said rod members; said rod members being adapted to rest upon a chair.

3. A combination adjustable seat and swing comprising a pair of vertical side members having spaced apertures, a horizontal seat member connected to and between said side members, a pair of rod members inserted through selected ones of said spaced apertures in said side members to make the height of said seat member adjustable with respect to said rod members, said side members having means to connect ropes to said side members to thereby provide a swing, and said side members having means to connect ropes to the bottom of said side members whereby the device when inverted can be used as a swing with said rod members used as safety gates.
