SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 278,934, dated June 5, 1883.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. GLEASON, of Peoria, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Billiard-Cues; and I do here by declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the end of a billiardcue provided with myinr;

My invention has relationto tips for billiardcues; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of a tip having a screw-threaded shank fitting into a screwthreaded hole in the end of the' cue, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the tip, and B the end, of the cue.

The tip consists of a plate or cushion, C, of rubber or other yielding material, of the same diameter as the end of the cue, from the under side of which projects a screw-threaded shank or lug, D, of the same material, and made in one with the plate. This shank is screwed into a female-screw-threaded recess, E, in the end of the cue, from the bottom of which projects a conical plug or pin, E,which bears against the lower end of the screw-threaded shank of the tip. The upper end of the one has an annufill the screw-threads and hold the tip firmly,

while the sharp rims H, biting into the under side of the tip, will prevent it from yielding laterally upon the end of the cue.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. The combination, in abilliard-cue, ofthe tip A, of elastic or yielding material, and hav-. ing screw-threaded shank D, with the one B, having screw threaded recess E at its upper end, having conical plug or pin F at the bottom, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.

, 2. The combination, in abilliard-cue, of the tip consisting of plate'O and screw-threaded shank D, of flexible or yielding material,with the cue B, having screw-threaded recess E, with conical plug F at the bottom and annular groove G at its upper end, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
